hannahb352 Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 We had an early morning flight so we arrived at the hotel at about 10:15am and were able to check in right away. The desk clerk said it wasn't a problem as they were slow during our visit. First thing to know about this hotel is that it is located almost next to an Airforce Base. The second it is located right off of I75 and it is noisy. I had read a review on the web that said to request a room not facing the interstate, which I did and was given a room facing the other way kind of overlooking the pool/dumpster area, but still better than the noise. I was on the 6th floor towards the end of the hall but not on top of the ice machine, I think any room ending in 26 is on top of the ice machine on that end of the hotel ( although the ice machine on my floor was out of order the whole 6 days I was there so it wouldn't have mattered). This hotel is an older property. It was clean but looking closer there were plenty of things that needed maintance. The hotel was like a ghost town when we were there. I may have seen 20 different people during my whole stay. A little spooky but it make finding a good parking spot very easy. There is an outdoor pool that is rather large, but it is not heated at all and is quite chilly. I was the only person I saw using the pool. There is no hot tub or sauna. It is loud by the pool due to the interstate and plane noise so it is not a relaxing afternoon by the pool. The hotel did have an excercise room; it had a stair stepper, weight machine and bike but no treadmill. There was a restaurant located in the hotel that was open for breakfast but we didn't eat there at all. There is also a lounge at the hotel, not what you would expect, it had a dance floor and pool tables, not a quiet or intimate place. On Sat. night I saw about 7 people in there and the other nights it was either not open or no one was there. Our room itself was fine. It was clean and had been updated some especially in the shower/tub/toilet area. We had a 25-27 inch TV with a pretty poor selection of channels. The air conditioner was quite loud as hotel air conditioners go, but didn't appear to be that old. The room also had iron, ironing board, coffee maker, hair dryer, and housekeeping would leave one comp. bottle of water and two bags of chips each day. The towels were old but seemed clean. Housekeeping came all days but one, due to our late departure that day, and did an excellent job with a couple a bucks tip each day.We did run into a problem with the hot water at this hotel. We didn't have any hot water on one day and when I asked about it at the desk I was told it was a problem all the local hotels were having, whatever that means exactly. The next day we woke late and didn't do much and never saw a note slipped under our door that morning that was telling us there would be NO hot water, I mean none, like when you turn the shower on nothing comes out from 11 am to 7:30pm that day as they would be fixing their boiler. So needless to say that didn't make our day. I felt like that might have been a time for a personal knock at the door or at least a call so they knew that we were for sure aware of the situation. The staff always seemed friendly and were probably the best part of this hotel. I think this hotel would be fine for a night or two, the rooms were kept up and clean but I wouldn't suggest staying here for an extended period of time. Overall the hotel was worth the $33 a night I paid but I don't think I would bid lower than a 3* again in this area if I'm staying more than a couple of nights.
