We're arriving at JFK on Sunday July 26, and want to stay 2 nights in NYC before moving on elsewhere. Looking for a reasonable hotel (at least 3 star) in a good location for a short, first time sightseeing trip.

We haven't used Priceline or Hotwire before, and would appreciate any tips. Suggestions for best location and likely cost would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Not sure how long your total trip is, but my first suggestion would be to stay longer than 2 days in NYC. Usually the day you arrive is not a productive day, nor is the day you depart... leaving you with one full day in NYC which, imo, is not nearly enough.

In regards to your stay, would you be willing to spend a littl emore for a 4* hotel vs. a 3.5* vs. a 3* OR is your goal the least expensive 3* or better hotel for these dates? Approximately what is your expected budget? (per nite before fees and taxes)

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Unfortunately our schedule does not allow us more than 2 nights - the NYC stopover was something of an afterthought. We realise that this is far too short a time to see the City properly. I guess some adivce about what to see in a very short stay would also be useful.

We haven't got far enough with the research yet to know what is a reasonable budget - that's one of the things we're hoping for advice about. What can we expect to have to pay for a 3* (or 3.5* or 4*)? Once we have a better idea of costs and suitable locations we can go ahead and try Priceline and/or Hotwire.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Current pricing i'd guess about $90-$130 for something 'good' (3.5* or 4* quality)... probably just a little less for a 3*.... in NYC the 'sweet spot' for value is usually at the higher rated hotels, imo.

Let us know once you're ready to begin and we'll look at current rates at that time.

With PRICELINE you're subject to receiving any hotel in the zone at the star rating (or higher) that you select... there is no way to differentiate or target the 'better' hotels within the same star rating or avoid the 'lesser' hotels within the same star rating. If you're trying to target, or avoid, specific properties (other than by selecting a minimum star rating) then HOTWIRE will likely be a better option as you can take an eduated guess as to what you may receive before your purchase... although this usually costs a little more than PRICELINE.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly.
