First of all, thanks very much for making this website available. It's a great resource.

The dates I'm looking at are April 8th to April 14th.

Hotwire is showing a Midtown Central for $141 per night for two adults, single bed.

Amenities include fitness, restuarant, high speed internet and business center.

Any thoughts as to what this hotel could be? I suppose it should be semi decent being a 4* and midtown central seems to be a happening place for a late 20's couple to explore NY.

Any input would be greatly appreciated and if I decide to book I will do it via the link on this website and also post the results.

Thanks

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The amenities above are a quite common for a 4* hotel in NYC and match the Helmsley Park Lane, Sofitel, and the Royalton... so either of these would be our best guess. I'll also add the Sheraton New York as a slight possibility as well.

Not sure what you're looking for from this stay, but i think i would sooner take the 4* in the MTE zone (Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Tennis... best guess the Inter-Continental Barclay or Grand Hyatt) which is priced just a little less... or if you're flexible try bidding on PRICELINE.

Thanks for the reply.

My wife and I are in our late 20's and this will be our first New York experience. We would like to stay in a decent hotel (not going to spend much time there except to sleep....but we want it to be clean, safe and feel comfortable leaving our luggage there) but would like to be close to the "action". We enjoy walking and want to be able to walk (or a short cab ride) to some restaurants, lounges, shopping etc.

Is the MTE zone a better place to make base camp versus the MTC zone?

Thanks

Generally you'll find that most any midtown location is 'central' in NYC as it's relatively easy to get around via foot, mass transit, and/or taxi. Some parts of the MTE zone get a little quieter at nite than parts of the MTC zone, but it certainly won't be desolate and still plenty of bars, restaurants, etc to choose from within a few block radius of whichever hotel you end up at.

I used to work in the MTE zone so i guess i'm just a little partial to that immediate area, and the "distant second guess" above of the Sheraton New York gets very mediocre reviews, so i would likely avoid that is possible (not terrible if you ended up there, but if you could have your choice there are probably better options).

Just an update. Booked the hotel in the MTC zone for $141/night and turned out being The Warwick Hotel on 65 West 54th Street. Not sure if this is a good one or not, but it's another one to add to the list. It gets a decent review on Trip Advisor so it should be fine.....but I would love to hear any experiences with this particular hotel.

Thanks again for the great forum.

Congratulations on your success!

This property actually has been reported to the board before, but at the 3.5* level, so this is an ugrade for this property... thanks for sharing your results with the board and helping us update the Hotwire Hotel List. Recent reviews of this property have been very good so it may in fact warrant this upgrade.

If you happen to make your way back to the hotel after a nite of drinking, do give the

stand a try (7:30pm-4am)... even if you don't try it, see the line that forms at this cart starting at 7:30 :)
