haliwill Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Hi,Just found the website... love it. I've used priceline a few times for hotels. I'm trying to get 2 rooms in Boston April 23-26. I saw all the 4star bids accepted for $61-70... mostly the Hyatt financial. I've bid $75 and not got anything yet? I'm using the zones without 4star hotels to get a few extra "free bids". I'm bidding one after the other with an extra few dollars each time... is that the right strategy? If I add 3.5star.... what bid should I start at? Does going for two rooms make a difference... I've read on the website it doesn't.Yes I used the PRICELINE link from here!thanks,Will
thereuare Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Rates are date specific. I took this recent priceline win at random for a stay near your own where the Hyatt was won for $65/nite. Rates for these dates direct from the Hyatt are ~$205/nite.... rates for your dates direct from the Hyatt are $249/nite. This indicates higher demand for your dates than when the $65 win (and likely the other $60-$70 wins) was accepted... and given the higher hotel direct rate, it will also likely take a higher bid price to be accepted. With this noted, i don't think you're too far off and should be able to be successful at ~$100/nite or under... how high are you willing to bid for a 4* hotel for this stay? Which zone(s) are you including in your bidding? Thanks for using our PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. haliwill Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 Thanks,I would like to stay in the Quincy market area. I only added other zones that didn't have 4* hotels... for the free bids. I am willing to come down to a 3.5* or even 3*, but what bid should I start at? When bidding, is there any point in going up $2-3 at a time? Is there a minimum increase that actually works? Thanks,W
thereuare Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 You can increase by whatever amounts you wish, but obiously there is a a better chance at reaching the lowest acceptable bid point when you go up $5 from your previously bid than if you go up by $2... but bidding can get time consuming so you reach a point where it just isn't worth the time to spend an extra 20 minutes to potentially save an extra $2. For example, with the deep discounts we often see, it ends up being very meaning to me (and my wallet) if i can ultimately save $100/nite on a hotel room... but if my savings actually amount to $98 or $102, the difference between that and $100 has no impact.HOTWIRE does have a 4* hotel in their Quincy zone for $108, which implies you could likely be successful with PRICELINE at under $100, but it appears you'd rather lower your star rating then raise your bid? Is this correct? So is $75 your top bid for a 4*? Since you only want the Quincy Market zone i assume the Copley area doesn't work for your needs? If you're gameplan is to next try for a 3.5* what is you maximum bid at that star level?Let us know the above and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. haliwill Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Thanks again,I went up to $89 last night, and again no luck. I would go up to $100 for this area.I would like to try 3.5* in the same area if the $100 doesn't work out. What do you suggest I start at?W
thereuare Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 HOTWIRE currently has a 4* hotel in the Quincy Market zone for $99 with Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business and a tripadvisor review of 4/5... this is a match for the Omni Parker House and that would be our best guess. This seems to fit your criteria for a 4* under $100 in this zone. Does this work for you? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes. haliwill Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 Unfortunately, I can't find the $99 one on hotwire? Again, using the link from the website and searching my dates... it's not there.Your right... it does meet my criteria! Do the deals come and go on hotwire pretty quickly?W
haliwill Posted March 20, 2009 Author Report Posted March 20, 2009 HI,I just got a booked in at Club Quarters, $80/night for my dates, 2 rooms.I'm happy! Thanks for your help... I used the PRICELINE link and will definitely be back to this website.W
thereuare Posted March 20, 2009 Report Posted March 20, 2009 Congratualtions on your win!Sometimes the deals come and go quick... other times the same hotel will show for days/weeks/months on end (usually when you're looking for something else that what is currently offered ! :) )Glad to see you're happy with your results and looking forward to your Boston trip.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
