Hotwire Hotel: Am I on track?

We are planning a somewhat last minute trip to DC on 4/1-4/5. We are a family of 5. DH and myself and kids 12, 10, and 7. I have poured over the information here for a couple of days and just want to make sure I am on the right track before buying! We are very much trying to do this on a budget.

Since we are a family of 5, I decided to go the Hotwire route rather than PL. I know that the rates for the week we are going are on the high side for these hotels in general, but with it being cherry blossom time and last minute, they seem reasonable. Are they?

We are looking at the 4* in the Kennedy area which I am guessing is the Melrose. I divided my trip into two requests because the 4/1-4/2 price is higher at $159/night and the 4/3-4/4 price is $122/night.

Any comments or advice is much appreciated!

Thanks!

I did the search for 1 room with 2 adults and 2 children. (Calculated risk, but hotel looks to accommodate 5 in a standard room). It looks like the price has now gone way up to $243 on 4/1-4/3.

Thanks for your help!

We have considered staying out of the city in Arlington or Alexandria. Since we have a LOT we want to see while we are there, we really didn't want to spend that much time on the metro each day.

And, on further investigation, if I bid for the entire trip of 4 nights, the price is only $169/night versus the split option with 4/1-4/3 being $268/night and 4/3-4/5 being $122/night. I think we will go ahead at that price; it is higher than the price yesterday, but only about $100. All things considered does that sound reasonable to pay? I am getting a little anxious about booking a place to stay and it is easy to overthink all of this!

Thanks for all your resources and tips!

I took a look and assuming the property you're seeing in the Kennedy zone is appearing with Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business amenity icons (and Tripadvisor info of 4.0/5.0 with 160+ reviews) then i agree that the best guess is the Melrose.
