minnmedia Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Just booked a room at the Wynn for Friday (3/27) and Saturday (3/28) - traditionally the toughest nights to find a cheap room in Vegas, for $119 per night through PRICELINE. This after several free rebids over two days, starting at $95.As noted in response to another post, I checked HOTWIRE first and found that the 5-star hotel (which I took to mean either the Wynn, the Venetian or the Palazzo) was available on that site for $143 a night, while the 5-star condo (the Trump) was going for $168 or thereabouts. I took this to mean that it was fairly safe to bid low for a 5-star property on PRICELINE (for those two days) without getting the Trump. I succeeded, but am still wondering if this is, in fact, a good way in general to avoid the Trump. And I just realized I should have made the bid by first linking through the PRICELINE link on this site. Sorry about that.
thereuare Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad to hear of your success! I think the strategy above slightly improves your chances of avoiding the Trump, but very far from a fool proof method, as i think even given the above scenario the Trump would be a distinct possibility when bidding on PRICELINE.Thank you for sharing your results with the board. Please remember to start your future purchases with the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Enjoy your stay. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
