Priceline Hotel: 4* Midtown East Hotel - Christmas & NY

Hi there!

I have been reading this forum for a while in anticipation of my first NY trip over Christmas and New Year (first cold Christmas, as from Australia), and was just hoping you could clarify a bid I placed on Priceline for the period 24 Dec 09 - 2 Jan 10.

I Bid $150US per night (just seeing how low I could go) and the following came up:

4 Star Deluxe Hotel, Midtown East Area

Check-In Date: Thursday, December 24, 2009

Check-Out Date: Saturday, January 2, 2010

Region: New York City

City Area: Midtown East

Is it too good to be true that I could get a 4* hotel in this area over the specified time frame?

I have searched the other thread outlining what hotels it could be i.e. The Benjamin, Waldorf Astoria etc and the price seems amazing for the possible hotels and time period - am I understanding the bidding process correctly?

That is just a "check" screen in which PRICELINE is asking you to review all the details you have submitted to make sure the information is correct. It is not confirmation that your bid has, or will be, accepted... that process does not take place until after you submit your credit card details and click the "Buy My Hotel Room Now" button.

I will add however that an accepted bid of $150 for a 4* hotel would not surprise me... i wouldn't necessarily expect it, but it wouldn't surprise me either given the current economic conditions. I definately think you will be able to win part of this stay for under $150/nite at a 4* hotel if you're willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID (the dates of NYE will be particularly expensive)

I'll also point out that HOTWIRE has a 3.5* in the MSG-Chelsea zone for your stay for under $100. (best guess is the new, not yet opened, Doubletree Chelsea)
