Lan Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 I've been looking for hotels in NYC from May 6-11. I wanted to try priceline for the following areas: central park south, midtown west, midtown east, and downtown. I'd like to book a 4 star for under $150 - is that possible? Any suggestions on bidding?
Lan Posted March 17, 2009 Author Report Posted March 17, 2009 This is the first time I'm using this forum so any help would be appreciated. I've been looking for hotels in NYC from May 6-11. I wanted to try priceline for the following areas: central park south, midtown west, midtown east, and downtown. I'd like to book a 4 star for under $150 - is that possible? Any suggestions on bidding strategy? What would be a reasonable price to start with and how much should I increase the increments by? Any advice would be great! Thank you.
thereuare Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! We'll suggest a strategy for you to follow, but before doing so, are you familiar with the city? Downtown isn't really the most convenient zone for the typical visitor and i wouldn't necessarily recommend staying down there for 5 nites, unless you have a reason to be in that particular area. With the above noted, you know your plans better than we do, so let us know if you'd like to include Downtown in your bidding or not and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Lan Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 I'm somewhat familiar with the city but I've never had to book a hotel in the city before...always stayed with friends, but i'm traveling with my boyfriend this time and it's his first time in nyc. I only included downtown because one of my friends who is a ny native mentioned that she likes staying in downtown, but I guess it doesn't give the whole touristy experience. I've also heard good things about Hotel 57, any suggestions on how to get that particular hotel? If not a general bidding strategy would be appreciated as well. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 You can't bid on a specific hotel, but we can offer a general bidding strategy for your dates to try for a 4* up to $150, but please clarify, did you want to include Downtown in your bidding or not? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Lan Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 No, let's not include downtown in the bidding. Thanks!
thereuare Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* MTE and MTW and CPS...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* MTE and MTW and CPS and re-bid zone5...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. Lan Posted March 19, 2009 Author Report Posted March 19, 2009 What does the "re-bid zone 1, re-bid zone 2" refer to? I got confused by the note that says the rebid zone 1 is not the same as priceline's zone 1. So if I select 4* MTE/MTW/CPS ....all 3 zones right off the bat for $105 and it gets rejected, then priceline will offer me the chance to re-bid with the option of adding re-bid zone 1? I've used priceline bidding before for other places but I don't recall seeing those terms "re-bid zone"...but maybe I just didn't notice or have forgotten. Either way, could you please clarify before I begin bedding? Thanks much.
thereuare Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 If youre bid is rejected, PRICELINE will make you wait 24 hours before you bid again, unless you're willing to change one of the following:-check in date-check out date-lower your star rating-add a zoneRe-bidding is adding a zone which only contains star levels which are lower than the star level you select... so essentially this enables you to make the same bid again, sicne you can't win a hotel in the zone you just added (since none of the hotels in that zone meet the minimum star level you selected)The "trick" is determining what the highest star level available in each zone is, and this is explained here: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedAs it appears you're new to re-bidding, you're strongly encouraged to ask questions and confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
