I've made several trips to Monterey. Every time I go I shudder at the thought of booking a motel/hotel. I find them old/run-down/overpriced. I *think* I am happy with my recent Priceline purchase.

After MUCH research I offered PRICELINE four offers. The first three were rejected. The last was accepted.

____

Offer 1: 4* Monterey-Pacific Grove area @ $103/night. Offer rejected.

Offer 2: 4* Added Carmel and Marina zones @ same price. (I knew this would be rejected as Priceline has no 4* hotels in added area.) Offer rejected.

Signed off, then signed back on to Priceline.

Offer 3: 3.5* Monterey-Pacific Grove area @ $81. Offer rejected.

Offer 4: 3.5* Added Marina-Seaside area AND increased bid to $86. Offer accepted.

____

Accepted offer is at Hyatt Regency Monterey - which is in my first choice of the Monterey-Pacific area. (Rejected at $81 but accepted at $86.) Rack rate at this property is $169 with an internet price of $143.

I have not used Priceline in a number of years. In the past I have been very unhappy with the hotels/motels I have purchased through them. Perhaps this time it will be different.

Curiously, my research reveals most of Priceline's accepted 3.5* offers in the Monterey area are at Casa Munros (which Priceline has bumped from 2.5* to 3* to 3.5* in recent years). I fully expected, if my bid was accepted, to be staying there.

I'm looking forward to my stay at the Hyatt. I *hope* it's worthy of a 3.5* rating!

BTW: I haven't seen anyone EVER get a great deal at a 4* property in Monterey.
