NiagaraVal Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 Hi there,I would like to book a 4* Hotel in NYC for one night. My boyfriend and I will be taking the Amtrak from Buffalo, NY and arriving at the Penn Station on the 23rd of May. We need to stay at a hotel for that one night as we are bording a cruise ship the following day...I was hoping to get a really nice 4* Hotel close to the station. I was thinking MTW or MTE, but I'm really not familiar with the city at all, so if you think I should add other areas, I'm open to suggestions. I don't really want to spend more than $120 but am willing to go as high as $150 if I have to. I know that this is a long weekend for the US, so I'm hoping I won't have any trouble finding something. Please let me know where you think we should stay and how to proceed with bidding. Thanks in advance :)
thereuare Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 To confirm...Is your ship leaving from Manhattan or are you leaving from Brooklyn or Bayonne? (as this may effect the recommended zones to bid)Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. NiagaraVal Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 Good question - I should've mentioned that! The ship is leaving from Brown Street in Brooklyn. When I was thinking over my options, I figured either we cab it somewhere closer to the Port of Call upon arrival on the 23rd, or we stay close to Penn Station and cab it to the Port of Call the next day on the 24th. Either way we're going to end up taking a cab, so I thought maybe staying closer to Penn Station would be nicer, since at least we'll get to see some of the city on the Saturday and then just cab it to the Port of Call the next day (our ship leaves port at 5PM on the 24th, but I'm not sure how much earlier they want us there for). What do you think we should do?V.
thereuare Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 If you want a 4* hotel i would consider bidding ESB (usually tough to win a 4* hotel in this zone), MTW, and Times Square. If you want to be closest to Penn Station, you'll need to lower your star rating to 3.5* and include (or first bid) the MSG zone... next closest is the Chelsea zone where the highest star rated hotel is 3 stars. For a 4* MTE is usually the least expensive, but by the time you travel there via Taxi and then the added expense of being a little further away for the taxi to Brooklyn, i don't think it would be worthwhile.Let us know how you'd like to proceed regarding the zones/star ratings above, or ask further questions, and we'll advise accordingly. NiagaraVal Posted March 14, 2009 Author Report Posted March 14, 2009 Let's try 4* in ESB, MTW and Times Square.... if that doesn't work then I guess I can lower my star rating and try MSG.How should I start the bidding?Should I just add ESB, MTW and TS all at once? Or add them one at a time? Thanks for your help :)V.

NiagaraVal Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Hi there,So here are my results:Selected 4* ESB, MTW and Times Square...Bid $95, was rejected added re-bid zone at $100, was rejectedadded re-bid zone at $105, was rejectedadded re-bid zone at $110, was rejected added re-bid zone at $115, was rejected added re-bid zone at $120, was rejectedDecided to drop star rating to 3.5* and re-bid at $110, which was accepted.... Kind of kicking my a$$ for starting at $110... maybe should've tried lower, but am still happy because it's cheaper than what their regular price is. The hotel is called "Club Quarters Midtown" and is on West 45th Street - do you know anything about it? It seems nice enough for $138 US (taxes included). Thanks for your help,Val
thereuare Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Congratulations on your win!Club Quarters was originally set up as a "club" for businesses to house workers who were traveling to big cities as well as people doing work for these companies... they then began to sell unsold rooms to the general public thru 3rd party suppliers (and only recently started to sell rooms direct)Rooms are not luxurious, but they're clean, basic, and functional. (although often a little on the small side... although it may seem like a palace copared to your cruise ship cabin :) ) For a one nite stay, and the right price, i'm sure it'll do the trick. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Enjoy your stay and upcoming cruise.
