Priceline Hotel: 3.5* NYC (CPS) Dream Hotel

Hello,

I stumbled upon this board and was quite surprised how helpful the members are in trying to find cheap accomodations.

Personally, I'm looking for a hotel in NYC from May, 31st until June, 7th (Sunday to Sunday) and I am wondering what prices I can expect at this time of year and for this length of the stay (without splitting). I do not have high requests regarding amenities or things like that. I think a 2* hotel (or higher, of course) would do me fine. Preferred zones would be MTE, MTW, TS, maybe I could switch to Central Park South, Madison Square Garden or Empire State Building area.

What are my chances when planning to spend about 100$ per night? Can I expect something, at all? I just went through the threads from last year and 100$ seem to be to low :-(

It is probably a bit too early at this point of time, but I just wanted to collect some opinions and experiences...

Many thanks in advance.

Rgds

Welcome to the site. :)

This is a busier time of year in NYC, but that may be effected at least moderately by the current economic environment. I wouldn't bid for anything less than a 3* in NYC unless it came down to being entirely necessary. I think you may be able to get a 3* for around $100, although it may possibly require a bit more than that. You may be able to do better by splitting your bid, since the first half of your stay seems a tad less pricey, but I think if you're looking for a 3*, you're probably looking at a price of anywhere from $90-95 on the low end to probably around $115-120 on the high end in terms of bidding. Please ask if you have any questions.

If you do decide to book, please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchase.

Thanks for your answer.

I think I will try it and go for a 3* at a really maximum bid of 105-110$.

I haven't decided yet if I will also try to split. I don't know how much time I will lose when changing hotels and how annoying this would be :)

Why is the first half of my stay less pricey?

According to the hotel list there don't seem to be many 3* hotels in NYC. Do you think your estimations will also apply to the 3.5* hotels? Is there much difference?

Any strategy for bidding? As said before, I think it is to early right now, but I can try every few days anyway

If I do not succeed I will probably take a private room in a hostel... :)

I think it is to early right now...

If your plans are firm, I disagree... since your trying to lowball the low-end of the range anyhow, what do you have to lose by trying now? For more of my own thoughts on 'bid early or late' see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

If you are ready to bid know let us know your maximum bid and the zone(s) you're willing to accept... we'll then suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I have nothing to lose, and I will try it already now as I said before...

And please believe me, I'm really aware of the fact, that it might be difficult to be successful with my budget, but please also note that I won't be disappointed then. I'm realistic...

But now to the bidding, most of the points I have already listed in my first post:

  • Maximum Bid: 110$
  • 3* hotel (or better)
  • First preferred zones: MTE, MTW, TS
  • I would rather first try other zones before going to the next bidding step (though there won't be many steps :) )
  • The other regions would then be: CPS, MSG and ESB area
  • At this point of time I will only try the whole 7 days, I will probably also try splitting in 3+4 in some time (I am not sure yet), but I think your advices will then also apply

Many thanks so far
