KnightAngel Posted August 26, 2004 Report Posted August 26, 2004 I just got back a few days ago from a wonderful stay at the Doubletree Club so I figured I'd post my review. This is a great hotel. For $40/night (8/18-8/23) this place was a steal! Checking in was fast & easy and the woman I dealt with was extremely nice. My husband had called ahead and requested 2 double beds (our 2 kids were with us) but we were told they couldn't guarantee it. When checking in I asked about the beds and was told the doubles were all booked. (There was some sort of international convention that bought up all of the double beds at the last minute) She felt terrible and offered to send up a roll away bed. I told her it wasn't a big deal because my kids each brought their sleeping bags. (They thought it was pretty neat that they have to camp out in our hotel room...LOL) The woman at the front desk was also nice enough to warn me about the phones. Phone calls are .50 for local calls...I think that is only for the first 5 mins. (I used my calling card and was able to call around for free)The rooms were very nicely furnished with a king sized bed, a nice desk & swivel chair, an armchair & an combination TV cabinet & dresser. (At the desk you could use high speed internet for $9.95 a day) The bathroom was a little small but it was nicely stocked with Neutrogena toiletries. :) There was a nice sized tub & the massaging shower head felt pretty good. Both the bathroom & the rest of the room was very clean. :o One more thing...there was a large closet right inside the door. It had sliding glass doors and was big enough to hold all of our luggage. My only complaint....my kids drove me CRAZY opening shutting the doors...LOL. :) We planned on using the Blue Line to get into the city & the Doubletree Club has a free shuttle that runs to the airport. It runs every 30 minutes. Be careful that you catch the right shuttle at the airport because there is another Doubletree that also runs shuttles. Make sure the shuttle says "DoubleTree Club" and you'll be fine. The hotel offers room service but it was a little pricey for us. The bakery downstairs offered sandwiches (around $6) along with other baked goods. We didn't eat there so I'm not sure what else they offered. There was a sign by the phone where you could order pizza too. It was $11 for a 12" one topping pizza. There's a McDonalds, Panda Express & a Steak N Shake very close to the hotel. If you travel farther down Mannheim Rd you will run into other restaraunts. (Wendy's, KFC, Taco Bell & Pizza Hut)The Doubletree Club has an exercise room & an outdoor pool. We didn't check out either of them...it was a little too cool to swim. This hotel also offers free parking!Well, thats all I can think of to describe this hotel. We had a great stay & I would definately recommend this hotel. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will try and answer them for you. :)
