krcitli Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 Hi. I'm new to Priceline and wanted to ask for some advice. I'm planning a b-day trip for my 2 daughters in April. 4/9-4/11 to be exact. We would love to stay in Times Square (I know, I know, but they are 10 and 12 and want to be right there, lol) Anyway, I see a deal on Hotwire travel ticker for the Westin for $189 and I know that's a great deal but would love to save even more. I was thinking I could try to get a 4* in Times Square and see what happens. from what I've been reading on here, I'm thinking I should bid and if get rejected add a zone with no 4*'s such as The Upper east side or Madison Square Garden? Also, can I request 2 beds after I win a hotel or am I stuck with what they give me? thanks for any info or tips :)
thereuare Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! An issue that you're going to have to deal with is that you're (i'm assuming) triple occupancy... and PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy. It's possible that you receive a room with only one bed, and in NYC, there are many rooms which are so small that there is no room for a rollaway. We don't typcially recommend bidding on PRICELINE in NYC when you'll be more than double occupancy or need more than one bed. You can call the hotel after your purchase and request a room with more than one bed, but there is assurance that the hotel will be able, or willing, to accomodate your request.HOTWIRE may be an option as they allow you to search for up to quad occupancy. Is the HOTWIRE $189/nite offer at the Westin valid for triple occupancy? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know your thoughts regarding the above and we'll advise accordingly. tante Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 I remember travelzoo having a special offer for the Westin at $189 a night for those exact date, so I don't think the HOTWIRE deal is especially hot. But if you really wanted to stay there, it is a great hotel and it is a good price for that hotel.
krcitli Posted March 6, 2009 Author Report Posted March 6, 2009 Thank you for the replies. I did know that about the triple occupancy but honestly, I figured, worst case scenario, we could all sleep in one king bed-the girls aren't that big, lol! I looked up the 4* hotels in Times Squrae and they all seem to have either king beds or 2 doubles so I think I could risk it. As wonderful as the Westin looks, I think I may hold off and try to Priceline-I would love to save some money, esp. in this economy. oh and the Westin was for a King bed also. Is it ok to have 3 in a room or is that against the rules? I don't want to do anything illegal. If that's the case I will Hotwire and pay a bit more. Thanks again.
thereuare Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 It's up to you if you'd like to take the risk or not.The occupancy could be a legal issue if the room is only designated (per fire code) for double occupancy... athough this isn't to say that others don't do/try it regularly.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. krcitli Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 Hi. Ok, I'm ok with risking not getting 2 beds b/c if I did my research correctly, most of the 4 stars in the areas I want are doubles or kings. I have never done priceline before so if I explain what I want, can someone guide me through? My dates are 4/10-4/12-ideally I would want Times Square but am ok with MTE. can you give me an idea at what to start my bids at? thanks so much
krcitli Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 I went ahead and tried. I got The Sheraton NY and towers for $125 a night. Not thrilled but I guess the price is right. Thanks for all the help. Oh, I used your PRICELINE link :)
thereuare Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Congratulations on your win! This hotel does offer some mixed reviews, but the location is excellent, and as you point out, the price is right! Not too far away is John's Pizza (44th St between 7th Ave and 8th Ave) which is a very nice pizza restaurant inside a converted church... it'll be child friendly and it's reasonably priced, if they're looking for something long those lines.Thank you for sharing your win with the board and using our PRICLINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay and hope the kids have a happy birthday in the city. krcitli Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 Thanks so much for the info on John's. I will definitely check it out. My kids always want to go some place like Applebees :) so this will be a great alternative. I am also going to get tix to Accomplice NY-any thoughts on that? This board is such a great resource. I will be sure to tell people about it. Thanks again for all your help.
