This is usually a very expensive time in NYC, but the hotel market (and in NYC in particular) has been weak that i wouldn't rush to book anything this high this early before your stay.

Try BackUpBooking.com to find a cancellable back up (always check the terms during the booking process to make sure its fully refundable as some rates are not) in the meantime just to protect yourself from rates going higher and continue to monitor HOTWIRE to see if anything more attractive presents itself in the coming months.
