I do have a question though. When we checked in, we were given an SUV. I did not really want an SUV but after we were told there was nothing else, we accepted it. Since this was our first time using Priceline for a car rental, we weren't too sure what the technicalities of it were. Can they give you something other than what you purchased?

It happens 'frequently enough' that rental companies run out of cars and give you an upgrade to another car class. You could have pushed the issue but if there were no cars in the class that you booked what was the alternative?

Rental companies (thru traditional booking channels) don't typically require a credit card for a reservation so they get a lot of "no shows" and therefore likely overbook somewhat, as well as sometimes just have people whose plans change and they keep the car longer than expected... it's not easy to manage a fleet of cars under such circumstances and they're main goals is probably to make sure they have enought cars period... then concern themselves with the vehicle being the actual one reserved.
