dgprouty Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 4* Hotel in downtown Detroit is The Westin Book Cadillac. Won for 95 a night for 2/28, one night. Wife and myself are going downtown for a concert and live in the far away western suburbs so we thought it was best to stay downtown. Total price is 115.45. Started off at 70 and moved up in $5 dollar increments. Have used this site before to reference HOTWIRE information and in reviewing I thought I was bidding on the Atheneum Suite Hotel. Quite a suprise, and a plesant one at that, to find out that I won at the BooK considering the match for this hotel at Hotwire was 119 a night and 142 for all taxes and fees, and the best price on the web was for 149 a night and 172 complete @ westin.com. As FYI this site is great, it predicted and was right that the hotel that I stayed in Anahiem, CA last summer was the Hyatt in Garden Grove at Disneyland and I saved a ton then as well, basically two nights for the price of one. This site is great! I also recommend this site to all of my friends and co-workers who travel.

dgprouty Posted February 28, 2009 Author Report Posted February 28, 2009 I have referenced your site many times and moving forward I will always post wins and reviews of the hotels we stay in. I am looking forward to staying in the Book as I remember it being open as a kid and seeing it closed down as a teenager and an adult. I will post a review after the stay.
dgprouty Posted March 2, 2009 Author Report Posted March 2, 2009 Hotel was great. Used valet parking ($25 a day), good, bellman greated us, showed us up to the second floor check in area and then showed us to our room. we had a room number that ended in 22, a room with a king bed. These rooms are behind the elevator. To me, typical Priceline or Hotiwre rooms though we heard no noise from the elevator area. For us we liked being close to the elevator, less walking to do. Used the workout facilities. They use the same equipement that Disney uses for their resorts at Disney World, was very impressed by facility, though they could have used a few extra TV's hanging on the walls. Did not eat at the Resturant, Roast, though have had co-workers eat there and they said it was good. We had appitizers at the Motor Bar on the second floor. Three appitizers for less than twenty dollars, though that was a good value and we enjoyed it. Room was beautiful, very modern furniture. Probably a 50 inch flat panel TV. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was good, marble counter tops and the double Westin shower head shower. The room size was good as well if you were in town on a business trip and needed work space.Walked to our destination, Joe Louis Arena, though the People Mover Station is one block away and takes you to almost all destinations in Downtown. Also there was also some cabs around the hotel. This is usually normal in most major cities. Though having lived in Metro Detroit my entire life, cabs in downtown Detroit are not that common. Overall very glad we were able to stay at the Hotel. My wife commented that she was so impressed that there was such a nice hotel located in the city of Detroit and that we were looking forward to staying there again.Remember this review is from a resident of Metro Detroit and I want this hotel to do well, though if I had a bad experience I would have also advised you of it as well. Will continue to use this site and provide all wins and reviews in posts, than you for tracking all of these hotels for both of these sites.
bleecker_st Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 Wow, thanks for this review! Westin on Northwestern Hwy is one of my favs and I like the Westin brand in general, so this is great to know. My bff is getting married in MI this summer, maybe I'll gift her a room the night before the wedding.
Randi Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Thanks for the review. We have stayed at the Ren Cen Marriot a couple of times downtown. I was wondering if this hotel was going to show up on PRICELINE. Didn't it just open?
dgprouty Posted March 13, 2009 Author Report Posted March 13, 2009 Re :) -opened in October of 2008, after being closed for over 20 years. They completely gutted out the place and redid the entire building.
