Priceline Hotel: 4* Chicago (Millenium-Loop-Grant Park) Renaissance

Hello All,

I don't have much experience in this process, but I am planning a trip to chicago for the first weekend in October, and would like to stay at the Hyatt Regency downtown. I have stayed here previously, but never anywhere near the rates that I have seen many on here bid and win.

Could anyone walk me through how one would go about an attempt at this hotel? Unfortunately, with these type of things I learn through practice - which could be pretty costly in this case!

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

To begin... you can't bid for a specific hotel. The deep discounts that you see reported to the board is in exchange for being flexible in which you hotel you will receive. Here is a good thread to get started: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire.

If you'd like to move forward let us know the actual dates of your stay and we'll take it from there.

As thereuare noted, you cannot bid for a specific hotel. Additionally, those who have won the Hyatt have won it for various dates in the near-term; you are trying for a bid several months in advance, and rates/traffic may be different. While the Fall is generally a popular time to visit Chicago (a fair amount of convention traffic is included in that) and my favorite time-weather-wise, traffic may be down if things continue as they are.

What is your budget per night for hotel?

Thanks for the response guys - I wasn't quite clear in my initial post. I am aware that you cannot bid on individual hotels, but from what I have been reading here, it seems that a bit of a system has been set up where lots of people have had success securing that hotel (a number at $59)

My trip is October 2-4. As far as price, I'd just like the cheapest 3* or better that I can find, understanding fall as a pretty busy season for Chicago. Hopefully, this clears it up a bit.

Thanks again

You need to do a little research first to find the least expensive acceptable hotel for your dates so that you can set an upper bidding limit and make sure you don't overbid.

Then, need to decide if i you want to try for a higher rated hotel first or if your goal is really the least expensive 3* or better... if you bid for a 3* first you may not have the opportunity for the 4* Hyatt that you originally inquired about.

Let us know how you'd like to proceed, your maximum bid, and which zone(s) you're willing to accept... we'll then be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow.

I've looked around a few sites with varying results for 3+ stars, ranging from low 100's to the 300's.

I would like to stay under 100 if possible - and have noticed a number of people having success at that hotel from $55-85. As for location, anywhere "downtown" is fine - the loop, mag mile, water tower, grant park - all ok. The Hyatt is in the BEST location for me though, which is why I inquired about it.

Thanks again

Can you confirm if you wanted to try for a 4* first up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3.5* up to your limit, then if rejected try for a 3*.... or are you seeking the least expensive 3* or better for this stay?

Please confirm and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Sorry for not being clear - I guess there are two ways I could go. Least expensive 3 star or better is fine. However - if you could offer suggestions for both scenarios, I would appreciate it. I do appreciate your assistance, and once I get the hang of it, I will certainly book through you from here on out.

Thanks again

Thought I'd throw in an update....

changed my plans to 9/4-9/7 and won on a $77 bid for the Renaissance Chicago Hotel 4*. Their website showed a best discounted rate of $179 a night

total for 3 nights comes to $275 after all fees and taxe

reviews for the hotel seem to be pretty good, so I am pleased.

thanks for all of your help and advice, and of course, I used your PRICELINE link to do my bidding.
