Priceline Hotel: 4* Amsterdam (City Centre-Museum Quarter) Nh Amsterdam Centre

Would like to stay in Amsterdam City Centre Apr 4-7.

First time we're doing this - not sure if it's possible to somehow increase the likelihood of getting certain hotels (in our case Marriott or Hilton) and reduce the likelihood of getting others (in our case Krasnapolsky).

It appears that K is cheaper than both M and H, so not sure if bidding $89 for example would simply be accepted by K and there is no way of going back to bidding. Or if bidding higher to start with (say $100) would move us into M or H territory instead of hitting again on K.

Of course we could try Hotwire, but we probably have a better chance for a deal on Priceline.

Any help would be appreciated.

The sad fact is that you can't control which hotel you will get with Priceline. If you try, one likely outcome is that you will get the hotel you don't want, at a price that is too high. I think some people have gotten K, and then paid for an upgrade, so that's another possibility to consider.

It's not recommended to bid high in hopes of a specific hotel (or in your instance avoiding a certain property). As WillTravel points out, you could easily end up overbidding and receiving the hotel you were trying to avoid, compounding the issue. Also, don't try to determine which hotel you're likely to get based upon the one with the lower retail price, as there is actually very little correlation between the hotel with the lowest retail price and hotel that will accept your bid.

I would take a look at HOTWIRE, while it will likely cost you a little than an equivalent PRICELINE purhase, it still should be a very good deal, and it would allow you to avoid (if you can corretly ID the property) the hotel you dont' want to receive. If you save $10/nite by using PRICELINE vs. HOTWIRE, but receive the hotel you don't want, how much of a deal is that? (ie - 'deal' doesn't always mean the lowest price... it's getting the best value that satisfies your needs)

Use the PRICELINE link as instructed and the info in a previous post about the same hotel. Started the bidding at $67- which was accepted.

We do not know much about the hotel - but will do some research on it. Hoping it is decent or better - it should be.
