Flamin Moe Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Hello,I use Priceline a lot for myself, mainly for San Francisco, but I've been asked by some family members to book them a hotel in New York. They're a bit less flexible than I am, so I thought I should enlist the help of the experts :). I've also never bid this far away from the date before.I need two rooms in any Mid Town area for 11/17 to 11/22. Hotwire isn't giving me good news so far:3* $1573.5* $2634* $204Ideally, I'd like to get a 4* for less than $160 or a 3* for less than $120. Since we've got a fair bit of time, I don't really want to go any higher than $90 for 3* or $120 for 4* (Got the Marriot Marquis for this a couple of weeks ago) at the moment. Price is more important than star rating, but if there's not much difference between the 3* and 4* price, I'd rather just go for the 4*. I can't really go outside of midtown.Any advice greatly appreciated...
mr.drew Posted August 16, 2004 Report Posted August 16, 2004 Glad to help, and although I am no "expert", I know enough. For rooms in November in NYC, the longer you wait, the more the prices will go up. $120 for a 4* will not be accepted.Do this, go to PL, select MTW, 4*, and start with $160, then if rejected, add one area each time... MTE, UM/CPS, UES.If you are willing to add DT/Financial district, you can try that too.At this point, there is no sense in starting below $160, at least as far as I can tell. Good luck, let us know how it goes... thereuare can probably help also, he is the guru here... :)
thereuare Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 Welcome to BetterBidding!I think you're seeing firsthand (as the song goes) "...Xmas time in the city".You have 2 re-bid zones at the 4* level and 1 re-bid zone at the 3* level. This is how i would proceed:Select 4* MTE and...Bid $120, if rejected add MTW and...Bid $130, if rejected add UM/CPS and...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $160.If the above is rejected close that browser and re-access Priceline by whatever means you did previously.Select 3* MTW and...Bid $100, if rejected add MTE and....Bid $110, if rejected add UM/CPS and...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone and...Bid $120.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.I would begin to ask them what they will do if they're not successful with Priceline at these levels. They could stay in parts of NJ for a lot less money and commute into NYC, but it's not nearly as convenient as staying directly in Manhattan. Flamin Moe Posted August 19, 2004 Author Report Posted August 19, 2004 I bid on Priceline UK, so values are in British Pounds. Exchange rate is approx
mr.drew Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 I have seen mixed reviews. I believe that the hotel is not nearly as bad as some people say. Many people are just whiners. There may be a couple rooms that need some updating, but it should be ok.Of course, I have the booked the Park Central in late September, and I will let you know how it is.
thereuare Posted August 19, 2004 Report Posted August 19, 2004 It seems as if you raised your maximum bid amount as this appears to be about $144US. Is my math correct? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Flamin Moe Posted August 23, 2004 Author Report Posted August 23, 2004 Dr Drew - thanks - would appreciate your commentsTheruare - yes - preferred max of $120US got no results. Location wasn't negotiable, so we had to up the budget. I believe the exact final price was $137US.
