Priceline Hotel: 3.5* Orange County (Disneyland) Hyatt Regency Orange County

While I had tried low values (like the $40-$45 range) for a few days previous, I just got anxious for some reason yesterday and kept using the rebid carefully by adding other areas as appropriate) until I got $54 for the Hyatt. [Note: I tried Disneyland at $46 and then Disneyland and Buena Park at $48 and then Disneyland and Fullerton at $50 and then all three at $52 ... finally with Disneyland and Anaheim Hills I got a hit at $54.]

Overall, I am quite pleased. We've stayed at this place before and were very happy. Certainly when even travelaxe and hotwire (and even the betterbidding hotwire forum for Orange County) are telling me that $50 is pretty much the minimum for this area it seems like a good deal. My only disappointment is that in the last few weeks someone else posted here that they have a hit in the low $40s for the same area. Oh well, maybe in September (after Labor Day) when we take our next mid-week trip to Disneyland.

Love the description and links for the free re-bid for the Disneyland area, by the way ... kudos! My only question is about whether (now) there really are three free rebid zones that won't put me. It looks like from the hotel list that every section of Orange County now has 3.5* places listed. Now I wouldn't mind staying in a 3.5* Buena Park hotel for $50 because it's not that far from Disneyland, but if one uses the re-bid idea nowdays it looks like you might actually end up a few miles away.

Now all I gotta do is call up the Hyatt and request non-smoking and two beds if possible.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Congratulations on your win and thank you for sharing your results with the board. Glad to hear the information on the board was helpful with your bidding.

My only question is about whether (now) there really are three free rebid zones that won't put me. It looks like from the hotel list that every section of Orange County now has 3.5* places listed.

As noteed at the top of the Priceline Hotel List:

DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 72 24 hour window.

You still do have three re-bid zones when bidding 3.5* in this zone, but you don't want to use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones. See Priceline Re-Bidding Explained for the correct method to determine which zones you can safely add and feel free to ask any questions in this regard.

Thanks for the welcome.

However, when you write:

You still do have three re-bid zones when bidding 3.5* in this zone

I have to wonder what additional re-bid zones are lurking that I did not find. I appreciate the link and I believe it explains things well, but aside from Anaheim Hills, it seems that all of the other zones in Orange County have 3.5* hotels.

What am I misunderstanding?

Thanks again ...

List each zone in Orange County and the highest star rating available in each, using the following technique outlined in Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

We'll then see if/where you're making an error.

Got it ... thanks for the re-explain on the re-bid :)

Now with three free re-bids and increasing $2 at a time, I have a $14 wide range of prices and can likely get the lowest possible price.

Disneyland

Disneyland+A

Disneyland+B

Disneyland+C

Disneyland+A+B

Disneyland+A+C

Disneyland+B+C

Disneyland+A+B+C

And if I'm feeling impatient, I can add in one or two additional areas which I don't mind at all (like 1=Buena Park or 2=Fullerton) into the mix and get an additional 24 bids (by first taking the above pattern and adding Buena Park with each of the above and then Fullerton to each of the above and then both with each of the above) ... with essentially 32 possible bids it is pretty likely that I'll get the best possible price ...
