Grifter Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 Hi there. We have been watching prices on hotwire and priceline for a 5star vegas strip property for Sunday February 22, and Monday the 23rd. Just noticed that the price on HOTWIRE has recently jumped quite a bit. Should we buy now, or should we wait in the hopes that the price will go back down before our dates?Has anyone seen prices decrease, or do they just get higher as the dates approach? Thanks for your input. :) g
thereuare Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Should we buy now, or should we wait in the hopes that the price will go back down before our dates?See the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.Did you previously identify the 5* hotel(s) you were seeing on HOTWIRE? Which one(s) were they? What are the prices? Are they the same hotels offered now? What are the prices now? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Grifter Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for the information... booking a cancellable backup is great advice. Will do that right away. This afternoon I checked and a 5 star hotel on the strip was running at $165. I just double checked and it was back down to $109. Not sure what that was all about, perhaps I mis-typed our dates. I had not previously identified the hotel, but I'm assuming that it was the Wynn as it had both a casino and 18 hole golf course.Going to follow the advice to book a backup, but keep looking on Hotwire and Priceline. Found the MGM for 49 a night on our dates. Thats not too bad for a back-up plan. Will be sure to book through your links should we go for a HOTWIRE or PRICELINE deal. Thanks a bunch,g
thereuare Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Please note, as per our support page, that we're also an affiliate of the MGM Grand and you can use our links for that reservation too!You started this thread wondering if you should 'chase' the 5* property since the price had gone up... now that's it's back down, why don't you want it for $109?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Grifter Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for the heads-up. Will be sure to use your links for any of those properties listed. To be honest, we were hoping that the price would go down even more than $109 - I'm sure it had been in the 80's at one point. (I snoozed and losed, i'm afraid :) ) Given the number of people who seem to be "bumped" from the Wynn, it's not our ideal destination. Friends of ours are at the Trump right now and are really happy with it, and for the money it costs on hotwire, we might just go with that.I will end "the chase" today. The MGM will be booked through your site for $49, and I will keep my eye on things, knowing that I've got a fairly decent backup.Thank you so much for your expert advice.g
thereuare Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 Given the number of people who seem to be "bumped" from the Wynn, it's not our ideal destination.I don't think getting bumped from the Wynn is a realistic concern (no more so than at any other property)... this was a one time event which unfortunately affected a lot of reservations, but this is not necessarily a common practice.
