Yo Billy Bob Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 Hello, Would love help knowing what to bid for a MiniVan/SUV from LAX on Feb 19- Mar 2Have tried up to $22 for both with no luck.Other rates including hotwire seem very high ($55/day)Not sure if there is something going on during those days to peak demand or what. Also: Priceline gives an option of and LA suburban location -- that's pretty general -- does that mean it's anywhere in the whole LA area?

I gave up on trying to nail down which hotels they were -- just too many possibilities, some of which looked ok, some looked a bit scary.I ended up winning a bid on priceline for the crowne plaza for $46 plus the taxes and resort fee.

thereuare Posted February 14, 2009 Report Posted February 14, 2009 The first day or your rental is inflating prices...Would it be possible for your to start your car rental a day later, or if you need the car on day of arrival, will you be in the immediate area so that you coudl possble rent a car for one day, return it, then pick up a new rental for a longer time period? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Yo Billy Bob Posted February 15, 2009 Author Report Posted February 15, 2009 That is possible, though we'll be in Anaheim, so would rather not drive back to LAX.One idea could be to do a one way from LAX to SNA airport for Feb 19-20, then try a one way from SNA to LAX from Feb 20 - Mar 2.thoughts? do you think that might work?
thereuare Posted February 16, 2009 Report Posted February 16, 2009 I don't thinking bidding on two one-way rentals is going to be cost effective and it would contain a bit of risk...One way rentals are usually more expensive than RT rentals, and what if you try the above and are successful for the first leg of the trip, but then unsuccessful for the second leg... you'll then be left with what would likely be a very expensive rental that you'll need to pay regular retail rates for. (unless you've priced it and found the retail rates to be acceptable)I also don't know if making the round trip after one day to return and pick-up a new rental is worthwhile, i suppose it would be for each person to decide, but assuming this is a 45 minute trip, you'll be traveling all day, picking up the car and traveling 45 minutes to Anaheim... then the next morning doing a 90 minute roundtrip (plus time it take to swap the cars). Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Yo Billy Bob Posted February 16, 2009 Author Report Posted February 16, 2009 Good points, thanks for your help on this. One other question, when priceline says you can rent from "suburban LA location," what exactly does that mean -- anywhere in greater LA? Can you bid on a car from anaheim?
thereuare Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Yes, "Suburban Los Angeles" should be interpretted as anywhere within the general Los Angeles area. Remember that the rental company is 'opaque', and since there are not always multiple rental companies in non-aiport locations, PRICELINE keeps it somewhat vague. No, unfortunately you can't bid on a car rental specifically in Anaheim. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
