Penny Slot machines Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I've bid as high as I can afford on a 4 star in downtown or west for 5/8 to 5/12 with no luck (I used the strategy of adding zones that only have stars below 4* which is everything except the airport area.) I thought I could get something reasonable based on the accepted bids, but I guess those deals run out in May. I am now either going to have to give up on staying over in Vancouver for more than one night, or try dropping down to the 3 1/2* or 3* in downtown or west (can't add other zones since they have those star ratings). I see in the posts that the Holiday Inn Downtown is a 3*. Any other ideas on what the hotels could be that are 3 1/2*. Thanks
tilepusher Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding. The hotel list for this forum (the one that's pinned to the top of this forum's list of topics) shows all of the hotels that have been reported by BetterBidding members. There are a few other 3* hotels that have not yet been reported, but your chances of getting one of them are very unlikely. You do have rebid zones for 3* and 3.5* bids (there are currently two at the 3* level and four at the 3.5* level). Check again and feel free to confirm them with us before you start.
Penny Slot machines Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 Thanks for info. I looked at that pin but thought it might not be accurate since the post was dated 2003. I think I'll try the 3 1/2* Downtown and see what happens.
thereuare Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 How high did you bid for a 4*? What is your maximum budget?I haven't looked at your specific dates yet, but would SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID be an option? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Penny Slot machines Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 I was trying for 5/8 to 5/11, coming in on a cruise ship. For downtown I had gone up to $80 (USD) for 4*, rebid on a 3 1/2* at $65. Perhaps those are not reasonable for my dates, I was looking at the forum and that rate may have only been OK over the winter. I was trying to stay below $90, with taxes that would put me at about $110 which is a strain. Hate to drop down to a 3* since a few of the hotels listed on the pin for downtown have very bad trip advisor reviews.I hadn't thought about splitting my bid, instead I was going to drop down to only 3 days and not see as much of Vancouver as I wanted. Seems as if Friday thru Sunday would be one rate, more on Monday, so perhaps doing 3 days only would be a good bet. I'm also looking at HOTWIRE again. Really appreciate the help. This trip is part of a lifelong dream of mine to see both Hawaii & Vancouver, but with the economy problems I just can't spend as much as I may need to stay in Vancouver more than a day or two. Guess I can come back some time in the future, if my health holds up :-).
thereuare Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 What appears to be the Coast Plaza is available on HOTWIRE for $90... reviews are mixed but it's within your budget and the reviews mention it has a great location... would this work for your plans? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. ProfessorBargain Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 I recently bid 3* in this zone for stays in February and have won both the Holiday Inn and Coast Plaza (due to split bids).
thereuare Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 ProfessorBargain,It would be appreciated if you shared your wins with the board (each as a NEW TOPIC) so that other scanning the topic titles in the forum will be aware of your successes as well as enabling them each to appear in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. Penny Slot machines Posted February 14, 2009 Author Report Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for the help. Although I am giving up on Priceline for this trip, I will defintely use this site for future trips and have recommended it to some others on my cruise critic blog. This site is really providing valuable info. I had never really known how to use Priceline correctly before finding this site.I had to make some trade offs on this trip and decided to go with the YWCA Hotel at $60/night based on the great reviews on Trip Advisor and input from the Vancouver forum. That will allow me to stay longer and do more. Maybe on the next trip I'll be able to bid enough to get a 4* hotel :-).
