Scuba Steve Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I've been trying to get the Wynn for <$100 the past 3 weeks for the weekend of 2/27-3/1. No luck since the Nascar race is scheduled for that weekend. Counter offers to $90-100 range went from 177 to 167 in late Jan. Almost bid around 130-140 to get a hotel but I figured I would get the Trump at a bad rate and decided against it. A couple weeks go by and I've been tracking all 4-5* weekend prices on Hotwire to see the trend. I'd see a $2 drop on some hotels and less and less options as the weeks went by. Got antsy and decided to split up the weekend between two hotels and started bidding to get the Renaissance off the strip behind the Wynn Golf Course. Even the 4*s Near Strip East were in the $120 range and finally got the Hard Rock for $92 for 2/27. Not excited but I'll give it a try. It seems far from the strip but a pool and casino should be plenty of fun for a day.Waited some more for Saturday Night, saw the Hotwire price drop from $200 range down to $140's range so I bid tonight at around 110. Priceline popped up a window that said to the effect of"Judging from recent data, you have a slim chance with that bid." I rechecked the 5* hotels and revisited the possibility of the Trump; no can do - bid $120. Win Wynn. By the way, at this point, the Trump Condo's are going for 115 on Hotwire. Happy to get the Wynn for Saturday 2/28. I bet I could have gotten the Wynn for ~$5 cheaper tonight but not sure when the Trump card plays. The prices may also be coming down in the next 2-3 weeks as the weekend approaches. I would assume they set prices high before they know actual demand for the weekend. I gave in because I didn't want to get stuck without a (nice) hotel on a potentially packed weekend.
