travelfriend Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Visiting NY for the first time. Need some help with booking a 4-star hotel. Thinking of MTE (hoping for Grand Hyatt). There will be 2 adults and 1 child (10yr) travelling. Would I be better doing this thru HOTWIRE than PRICELINE as I have 3 travellers and needed 2 beds?I have never booked with Hotwire before. After booking, do I still need to email the hotel to confirm the request for 2 beds? Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!PRICELINE only guarnatees double occupancy, so you could get a room with only one bed (and in NYC it's also possible that there is no room for a rollaway)HOTWIRE ensures that there will be enough sleeping accomodations for everyone you include in your search, although note the "second bed" could be a pullout sofabed, rollaway, etc.If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/1child are there any hotels that in your desired star rating, budget, and zone? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. travelfriend Posted February 9, 2009 Author Report Posted February 9, 2009 If you search HOTWIRE for 2adults/1child are there any hotels that in your desired star rating, budget, and zone?Yes, the price is good. MTE for 2 adults/1child is $134MTW for 2 adults/1 child is $132But if I change it to 3 adults(just to make sure I get the extra bed) then the price went up to $175 for MTE.I am just wondering usually the hotels that I would get for that area would it be Grand Hyatt, Omni, or Inter-Continental Barclay....would I be right to assume so?Thanks for your help.
thereuare Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 What are the amenities HOTWIRE associates with each of the properties above? If you search for 2adults/1child you will receive 2 beds (and 'bed' as defined above could be a pullout couch, rollaway, etc) so i don't think searching for 3adults/0children is going to change anything (other than potentially the price)... or do you think searching for 3 adults will increase the chances of an actual bed instead of a rollaway/pull-out?Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. travelfriend Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 The amenities for the MTE hotels are : fitness center, restaurants, Business Center and high speed internet. What might this hotel be?yes, I was thinking if I searched for 3 adults....I will get a room with 2 double beds. I know Grand Hyatt has rooms with 2 dbls. But not sure about Omni or Inter-Continental Barclay?
travelfriend Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 I forgot to add....tripadvisor rating 4.0/5.0, +240 reviewsCould this be the Omni Berkshire?
thereuare Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 I don't think there is going to be a differentiation in bed configuration when searching for 2adults/1child vs. 3adults/0children... the search is likely simply looking for triple occupancy and isn't weighing whether or a not an adult would be more comfortable on a bed vs. a pullout couch. The property above is a match for the Omni Berkshire so that would be our best guess (although very interesting that this property doesn't even show up when searching for 2adults/1child rather than 3adults/0children... it woudln't be surprising if a different 4* hotel showed up in its place for these dates, but there is actually no 4* offered in this zone when searching for 2adults/1child, so you may be 'stuck' using 3adults anyway)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let su know how it goes or if we can be of further help. travelfriend Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 oh, it did show up yesterday but now it's gone. I guess I waited too long. Would you know what hotel is the 3.5 star in MTC?The amenities are smk free, fitness ctr, restaurant, bus ctr and high speed internet. Trip advisor rating is 2.5/5.0, +420 reviews.
thereuare Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 The above would be a match for the Sheraton Manhattan so that would be our best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help.
