girlinthemoon_78
Hello,This is my first time trying to bid on a car and so far I'm not having any luck. My flight lands at MCO at 11:30pm Feb.25 so I've tried bidding for midnight Feb.26 to 2pm Mar.1. I started at $13.00 and went up to $16.00 (by $1.00) changing car sizes as I went but it was all rejected. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Link to comment
thereuare
What is the best rate you're able to find thru the Car Rental Checker and what is the best rate thru HOTWIRE? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
girlinthemoon_78
The best rate on the car rental checker is $23 (the same with the retail side of PRICELINE) and on HOTWIRE the best rate was $30. Link to comment
thereuare
I'm assuming the $23 was not from one of the "major" players in the industry... are you ok with renting from one of the second tier companies? girlinthemoon_78
The $23 rate was from Dollar and Advantage. They are names I know so I am willing to rent from them. Link to comment
girlinthemoon_78
Sorry, that was Payless not Dollar. Link to comment
thereuare
You would need to keep your bid at $19 or under (doublecheck yourself) to do better than the $23/day "all-in" price from Payless or Advantage.Since your PRICELINE rental would be from a more widely recognized namebrand than either of the above, i would set $19 as my upper limit and continue to inch your way up from your current bids, trying ever 24 hours as you gradually increase. With rental cars i prefer the 'warm and fuzzy' feeling from a more established name brand, so that if something does go wrong in my travels, i'm more likely to be near a local rental location to have things straightened out and/or swap cars (asusming available and the rental company agrees)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Keep us updated as to your progress, and if you haven't yet, i would book one of the above as a cancellable back-up to make sure the price doesn't increase while you continue to bid (just confirm that it's fully refudnable) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment

girlinthemoon_78
Hi!I went up to $21 but I was still rejected. I ended up booking an economy from Dollar thru Expedia (using the car rental checker) for $140 incl. taxes and fees.Again, thanks for all your help!!! Link to comment
thereuare
Glad you found something you're happy with.Assuming the Expedia rental is cancellable, you can still check PRICELINE and HOTWIRE over the course of the next week to try to 'better' your deal. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Have a great trip.
