Priceline Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip North) Wynn

Thanks again to everyone who helped me with the first leg of my Vegas trip. I was able to secure the Venetian Hotel and Casino for June 30-July 3rd for $95 a night. Now I need to book the last night of the trip, and the most expensive! I want to try to get on the strip in a respectable location for under $100. $75 would be even better. But, it is a Friday night and obviously it's more expensive. I've seen on hotwire where the Venetian and the Trump are around $150-$175. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to start this process for July 3rd?

THANK YOU!

For this leg of your stay could you accept a hotel which is slightly off-strip, but still within the boundaries of PRICELINE's strip zone (ie- Westin, Trump, etc) or would these not be acceptable for this nite?

Actually the trump is what I WANT... and yes, I know about the resort fee and all the negatives. But, since their checkout time isn't until 4:00pm it works perfectly with my red-eye flight. But, I haven't seen the Trump for less than $100 on that Friday night the 3rd of July.

On priceline isn't the trump considered on the strip? Let me know what you think. Thanks! The cheaper the better, but I am not sure I want to stay too far off the strip.

Yes, it's in the Strip zone, but it's actually slightly off the strip (the strip zone boundaries extend beyond just the main part of the strip)... as is the Westin.

While i agree that the Trump would be a stretch for this Friday nite with a $100 limit, did you want to try for a 5* first, or are you more interested in price and looking for a less expensive 4*?

Ha, we may be "stripped out" by that night so staying slightly off strip wouldn't be too bad. We plan on trying for a rental car so I was even thinking of the abstract possibility of trying for the JW Marriott away from Vegas proper. Any thoughts on that?

I would say that I guess it doesn't really "hurt" to TRY for a 5-star but I wouldn't be at all disspointed with a 4-star at a very respectable price. I've stayed at the Monte Carlo my only other time in Vegas and didn't have a problem with that. Boy, I'm sure I'll be surprised with the Venetian!

My favorites on the 4-star level would probably be Paris, Treasure Island, Caesars, NYNY, and MGM in that order.

But, if we don't get a GREAT price at that level I would be perfectly happy with Monte Carlo or Luxor at a killer discount. Again, that was the trade off to get the Venetian. It was with the understanding that we may not live in luxury for the last night! :) I'm not going to complain!

I think, unless i can be talked out of it, that i would rather stay on the strip. There is just something about walking out of the front of the hotel and being on the street. (Unless it's the TRUMP and then I'll enjoy the 4pm check out time)

Thoughts? Thanks again!

P.S. And if I didn't before, I don't mind using priceline. In fact, I feel that you can sometimes get a better deal!

So does this mean you want to try for a 5* first?

What about the Westin... would this be an acceptable outcome? (it is slightly off-strip, so while it is walkable to the strip, you don't want out the lobby door and be in the heart of it all)

Lastly, unless you intend to leave the strip area (Hoover Dam, Red Rock, etc) i dont' think a car is necessary... taking cabs does add up cost-wise, but it's a big time saver too since you're not walking from the self parking garaage from each casino that you visit.

Let us know the above and we'll take it from there.

Yes, I would like to a 5-start first but am I right to assume I shouldn't hold my breath to get a 5-star for a Friday night under $100? In other words, I'd rather spend $70 and get a 4-star for that night on the strip than have to spend over $100 for another night at a 5-star.

And yes, we do plan on taking a trip to the Hoover Dam. It looks to be less expensive to rent a car than to take one of the bus tours. Also, there's an outside chance we will be going to the Grand Canyon for one of the days. Yes, I know it's a LONG drive but something we've been wanting to do.

I see that the Venetian has an Avis counter in their lobby so maybe we can get a car for just one of the nights and use the shuttle to and from the airport.

While i have no PROBLEM with the Westin or the Hilton for that matter it probably wouldn't be my first choice. As I said before we were also contemplating trying for the JW marriott away from the strip.

Thanks for the advise. I'll wait on your reply.

Understood, which is why you would use a maximum bid of $100 at the 5* level, and if that is rejected, lower to a 4* property and lower your bid too.
we were also contemplating trying for the JW marriott away from the strip.
When will you decide if you want to go try for this property first OR a 5* in the strip? Where does the JW Marriott fit into the 5* or 4* bidding?

Let us know once you decide your preferences and we'll advise accordingly.

I guess I would say that since I have time on my side I can be a little more conservative. Here are my priorities.

1. Cost - I would rather get a 4* for $60 bucks than get a 5* for $100.

2. Location- the strip is my first choice, near the strip is second, then I'd try to get the JW Marriott on the cheap.

3. Time- I can choose to "low-ball" the offers for now and then raise them closer to the date of the trip. (Is this an acceptable plan? Do Vegas rates go up or down closer to the date?)

There is no "rule" as to whether rates go up or down closer to check-in, it's all based upon how actual current and future bookings compare to expectations. For a further discussion see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ.

So do you want to try first for a 4* up to $60/nite?

Yes, but i'll add that for this Friday nite, the start of a July 4th holiday weekend, i would say that $60 for a 4* and $100 for a 5* would already be considered lowballing it a bit, and i suspect you'll need to raise you bid from these levels to be successful.

Fair enough! Thanks for the advice.

What about this?

Try for 5-star on strip... 70....80.

Then try for 4-star on strip.. 60...70...80

Then try for JW Marriot Resort 60...70

And if those don't work I can always wait a few days an "up-the-bids". Although i've seen the Trump go as low as $70, I'm fairly certain that wasn't a Friday night!

What would be the best re-bid matrix for that sort of thinking? Does it even make sense? :)

P.S. As for the rental car? You may want to add this to the rental car thread. I KNOW it's not hotwire or priceline but I was able to book a mid-sized car through delta's website for $106 including taxes at the airport. I also get 5,000 skymiles. I think that's a killer deal!

At the 5* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones, only one at the 4* level.

(NOTE: Summerlin is not a re-bid zone at the 4* level)

Select 5* North Strip (and South Strip if this is acceptable too)...

Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $72, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $74, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $76, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $80, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE

Select 4* North Strip and South Strip...

Again, this 4* bidding assumes you're willing to accept the North or South strip zone.

Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected and yo then want to try for the JW Marriott we'll suggest a strategy for that (or not sure if you want to continue wtih the above and/or up your maximum bid before trying outside of the strip area)

I do feel that I need to UP my bid. I'll just use the plan you've given me but up everything by at least $10-15. I tried a few bids last night all over the place and had no luck. You were right about the 4th of july weekend! However, I did stay away from the 4* Strip South for fear of getting the Westin. And, because of the late check-out time I am more inclinded to pay more and try to get the trump. And, I've seen it for as low as $150 on HOTWIRE so I've got to think I can get close.

The only re-bid offer I got (counter-offer) is $166 for 5-star on the north strip. :::sigh:::

We'll keep trying until we land on something! :)

Link to comment

Well, none of those worked. I tried as high as $120 for a 5-star and up to $90 on the 4-stars with no luck. I think I'll give it some time and try to book something around that price range in a month or so. I see the first friday in JUNE lists a 5-star condo for $80. That's probably the Trump. I certainly wish I could book it for JULY 3. Ha!

Thanks again and I'll check back in a few weeks unless you have any suggestions.

Looking for advice. Thanks for those who've helped me before. I just wanted to get a few opinions on Las Vegas around 4th of july weekend. Is it crowded? More expensive?

I've already booked a hotwire rate ($95 per night at Venetian) for the Tuesday-Friday of my stay and am still looking for the friday night. Obviously it's the most expensive. Right now I see $179 at the lowest price on a 5-star hotel. Yikes! Any suggesstions on bid zones or catagories my wife and I would be happy with? I see where I can book the Luxor's "tower suite" room for $95 with a coupon code. Think I can do better than that the closer the date gets? I assume they won't RUN OUT of hotel rooms. :)

Link to comment

Thanks Murtle, that's sort of what I've been running into. I see where on hotwire that the trump is $179 for that Friday night. I actually prefer the trump for our last night because we're taking the red-eye and their check-out time is 4pm. I'm scared to bid on the south strip 4-start just because of the Westin. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about that property? After reading some reviews I'd almost rather book the Las Vegas Hilton for $129. Thoughts?

Back to the Luxor though, is $100 good for a Friday night in the "second from the bottom catagory" Tower Suite? I don't know anything about the Luxor. Better/worse than Monte Carlo? I should really just bite the bullet and get what i want! :)

Please keep all posts for this stay in this thread.

Personally i prefer easy (walkable) access to the strip... so i would favor the Westin over the Hilton, but now the monorail goes to the Hilton it make for easier travel to the strip, but i enjoy walking vs. wating for a monorail, so i'd still prefer the Westin, i think (haven't stayed at either)

The Luxor is a bit too far south for my liking, and current issue at the Monte Carlo is the city they're building next door.

Essentially, i'm not in love with any of the choices above... but if you go with any of these direct please check our support page as we have links to all of the:

Hilton

Westin

Luxor

Monte Carlo

Some other ideas...

i4Vegas has Flamingo ($95), Ballys ($115), and Excalibur ($111)... but all these have a $25 cancellation fee.

Hummm.... thanks for the advice, but I haven't heard many good things about Excalibur. I keep looking at the Flamingo/Balls. Wasn't one of them just rennovated?

I am still kicking around the idea of staying at a resort type property. (JW Marriot, Red Rock, Loews at Lake Las Vegas) That would be nice for the final night of our stay but every property has a checkout time of 11-12. Heard of anyone having late check out available? That's why i keep looking at the Trump with a 4:00pm checkout! (We have a late flight that night)

ALSO, any ideas on this property?

I mentioned the three above (Excalibur, Ballys, and Flamingo) based upon your budget.

Excalibur wouldn't be my first choice, but it's close to the airport too, so cab ride back would be a little more reasonable as well, which addes to the value. Of the three, Ballys is the nicest, imo.

Wasn't the whole idea of SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID to make the last nite cheaper? If this $169/nite property is an option why not just stay at the Trump with their late check-out OR try for a 5* on the strip?

Wanted to get another round of "thoughts" as I continue to figure this whole trip out. We just got word that our flight out of vegas isn't leaving until around midnight. So, do I book a hotel room for Friday night and then have to check out around noon.... then be "homeless" until we need to head to the airport at 10pm? Or, should we book a cheaper hotel and just check-out around 10pm instead of staying the night? Personally I'm thinking I'd rather have a hotel room to stay in and shower in before getting on the red-eye. Any suggestions?

Link to comment

Well you can always have the hotel hold your bags and then go mill around for a while.

I stayed at Excalibur like 2 years ago, before the room remodel and it was fine.. and super clean. It's just not luxurious. Luxor is definitely nicer.

and for what it's worth, I stayed at the Westin and I really enjoyed it... the rooms were great and the beds were comfortable and nice to be w/o smoking for a while.

Might want to book the extra room to stay late. Since it's 100zillion degrees a shower would be nice LOL!
