hapahaolegirl Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 I'm looking at Chicago on HOTWIRE for 2/27 to 3/1/09. I want to stay near the Lyric Opera and the Art Institute and prefer to be in walking distance as I don't plan on getting a car. There are three hotels that I think will suit my geographical preferences, can anyone help identify them? 1) 3.5 * in Chicago Loop Fitness Center, Business Center, H/S Internet Access2) 4* in Chicago Loop Fitness Center, Business Center, H/S Internet Access - From research on this site, this may be the Hotel Burnham but I know the Burnham has a restaurant.3) 3* in Chicago Loop Fitness Center, Laundry, Restaurant, H/S Internet - Is this the Hotel Burnham???Thanks to anyone that can help.
AaronJB Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Not sure what the 3.5* first listing is; it may be the Silversmith or the Hampton Majestic. The 4* would appear to be a match for the W City Center, while the 3*would be a match for the Club Quarters Loop. While it's understandable that you want to be near those two sites, keep in mind that a good portion of the Loop largely shuts down at night - many restaurant and most stores close up.I'd rather recommend trying to stay near the river; while it may be a bit further walk (still not that bad), there will be more people out and about in that area at night. For example, I'd rather recommend the 4* Mag Mile/Streeterville (which might be the Westin River North, Sheraton or Hard Rock), as all of those possibilities are more centrally located and will be more active at night than in the Loop.If you have any questions, please ask. Additionally, it would be greatly appreciated if you could use the site's link to HOTWIRE to start your purchase.
hapahaolegirl Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 AaronJB - thanks for the input. When I did this trip last year, it was a bummer trying to find a bite at night - but the Burnham fed us! I took the plunge (using this site's HOTWIRE link) and went for the $89 4* MM Area - Streeterville. Got the Hotel Sax (House of Blues) for 2/27-3/1. Mahalo.

AaronJB Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Glad you were able to get the Hotel Sax, which won't be that far from where you wanted to go, plus there will be more going on around it at night - as I mentioned to another poster, there's a gorgeous high-end bowling alley (10-pin) in the same complex, as well as a wine bar (Bin 36) and the House of Blues is across of the hotel. Michigan Ave. shopping is a short walk and the River North area (which is the area around the hotel and generally to the North of it) also has plenty of restaurants and nightlife.
