Ellabella Posted February 5, 2009 Report Posted February 5, 2009 Hello,I am going to NYC for 2 nights: 4/17 and 4/18. I would like a 4* and can go up to $125 per night (of course would prefer less!) It is important that I stay in MTE. I understand the concept of rebidding with zones that don't have 4*'s, but could use help with the process.I will certainly use the PRICELINE link here for my bidding. Thanks!
Ellabella Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 Hi, No luck 4* NYC 4/16-4/18 what next? I posted earlier but got no response so I went ahead and bid thru your link. (I need to stay in MTE), (and I added a night onto my previous post)started with MTE for 105 rejectedadded Chelsea for 110 rejectedadded MSG for 115 rejectedadded UES for 120 rejectedadded Brooklyn for 125 rejectedI'm disappointed cuz it seems others have had better luck with MTE. So now, do I rebid every 24 hours and add $5? (I can only go to $135.)Did I make a mistake by using all my free bids too soon? If I take a night away, can I start all over at a lower rate? Sorry for all the questions, I've never done this before.
thereuare Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Can i ask why you need to stay only in MTE as it's usually quite easy, and inexpensive, to get around the city, and with the zones so close to each other (often seprated by just one street), many zones are interchangable. As i know the city fairly well perhaps knowing your plans i might be able to suggest something that will work for your needs. With the above noted, as you've bid for different dates, do you just 2 nites within a given time period OR were your two choices basically 4/16-4/18 or 4/17-4/19?Thanks for using or PRICELINE links for your bidding. Ellabella Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 Hi thereuare,Sorry about the thread.I am visiting NY with a class. Several of them are staying in that area (MTE), in a hotel that is not on PL (The Pod on E 51st). We are visiting artist studios all over NYC, so I want to be able to ride the subway back to the hotel at night with other people I know, as I am alone. Having said that, there is one of the group staying on the UWS, so I could possibly open the bidding to that area. I see there is only 1 4* there (The Empire).I want to stay there on 4/16, 4/17, & 4/18. I added the 16th because we all have to be at the Battery at 11am on the 17th and am coming from Boston.I heard the Pope will be in NYC on the 18th, and saying mass at St Patrick's, which may be gumming up the works, esp on MTE.Thank you so much for your input!
thereuare Posted February 6, 2009 Report Posted February 6, 2009 What is your maximum budget for this stay?I can guess but i'd rather not assume... what is the reason you're not interested in staying at The Pod with the others?I have a few ideas but let me know the above so i can narrow the options which would likely best suit you. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- i don't think i'd recommend staying in the UWS zone as it's not that easy of a commute to 51st and Lex via subway Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Ellabella Posted February 6, 2009 Author Report Posted February 6, 2009 My maximum is $135 per night. (The Pod is at least $159, so yes, it is a matter of money that I am not staying there.) I was really hoping for around $120, but I'm not sure if that's possible. As for the UWS, I don't need to connect directly to the 51st St subway area (MTE) from the UWS. My group will be meeting at the Battery, and then moving from place to place from there. I can travel back to whichever hotel with one of the group members, as some are in each area, UWS & MTE.I am not very familiar with the subway system, but I see a line (the 1 Line? - it's red) going thru Columbus Circle, which isn't too far from the only 4* on the UWS: the Empire( 63rd St).Having said that, I guess I would prefer the MTE.
thereuare Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I would bid up to your maximum, using your 5 re-bid zones.Select 4* MTE...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINE(assuming you next want to try for UWS)Select 4* USW...Bid $100, if rejected add MTE...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135Any questions feel free to ask.If the above is rejected i have one or two alternate ideas. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Ellabella Posted February 7, 2009 Author Report Posted February 7, 2009 Ok, I just did as you suggested and was accepted for the W for $135. The cheapest room on their website goes for $254.10, so I am happy with the deal.bidding thru your link:4* MTE $100 rejectedadded Brooklyn $110 rejectedadded Chelsea $120 rejectedadded LI City $125 rejectedadded MSG $130 rejectedadded UES $135 acceptedtotal for 3 nights, with taxes and fees: $486.84Thank you so much for your help! This is a wonderful website! If you have any ideas for good cheap eats in the area, I'm all ears!
thereuare Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Nice to see you get a hotel in your prefered zone and within your budget. This should work out quite well given the location of the rest of your group at the Pod (incidentally, your hotel is much nicer and cheaper!... but do note that many of the rooms are very small)In this area i often recommend:Ess-A-Bagel: Third Ave at 51st St... one of the best bagels in the city and makes for an inexpensive breakfast among localsJackson Hole Wyoming: Third Ave at 35th St (not terribly close but you can stop on the way back to the hotel one day) for monster and juicy burgers... a full meal for $10Chicken (and Lamb) and Rice: late nite eats at the SW corner of 53rd and Sixth Ave... almost always a line and the best $6 meal you can get in the city. Easy on the hot sauce as it's probably the spiciest thing i've ever tasted... only serve 7:30pm-4:00am... you can see them in action here: Thanks for sharing your win with teh board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay.
