cthree Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I actually have been using this site for quite some time and finally decided it was time to give something back. Betterbidding has helped me save a lot of money in the past and I am very happy to have found it way back when. And yes, I will try to remember to use the right PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links in the future. :) First bid was $50 for a 3* hotel in Wrightsville Beach for 2 nights on 1/30/09. Not accepted. It reminded me the average price for this type of hotel was $143 or $163 or so. I was bidding on the same day I was going (very last minute).Second bid was for $50 for 2.5* in Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach. Also, not accepted and Priceline reminded me the average price for this kind of hotel was like $123 or $133 or so.Final bid was for $55 for a 2* in Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach. Bid for TownePlace Suites by Marriott was accepted. This 2 * hotel is listed on another website as the 2nd best hotel in Wilmington. It is brand new, wooden floors in the bathroom, still even had that new wooden smell to some of the furniture (nice). Room was smallish but had lots of amenities for a hotel of this type; layout was very efficient and didn't make you feel cramped. Room would be ideal for up to two people with a small child, but not more than that in my opinion.Overall a great deal in my opinion and I'd do it again if I had the chance. For what it's worth, I did hear someone else stayed the same weekend and got a room through Priceline in the $40-49 range, but never did hear the exact amount. I probably would have stayed an extra night, but somehow missed the Priceline option to extend my stay (I see it now in their email; too late now.) Priceline did indicate an $89 rate after my stay and Marriott's website mentioned $109/night (and I think the person on-site mentioned $99). The other website referred to earlier listed an average rate of $139 (however, I was there in the off season).I was looking for something in Wrightsville Beach and though technically this was in Wilmington, it was only 6 miles (10-12 minute drive) from where I needed to be at the far end of the beach. Thanks again!!
