Priceline Hotel: 4* Los Angeles (Airport LAX) Sheraton Gateway

I wanted a nice hotel for 5 nights in the LAX airport area 5/21/09-5/26/09

I selected 4 star hotel category in the LAX area

First bid was $55 rejected

Priceline countered by saying they would consider my bid again if I increased it by $15

I increased it by $15 to make my offer $70 and it was accepted:

Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $70.00

Subtotal: $350.00

Taxes & Service Fees: $60.99

Total Charges*: $410.99

Works out to by $82/night after taxes and fees. I probably could have gotten it for less but didn't want to wait another 24hrs to bid again. This is a huge savings from the Priceline rate of $134/night for the Sheraton Gateway.

However, the Best Available rate on the Sheraton site is $89 +tax=$101.

So, overall I got about 20% off the company website rate. I was really surprised that other "discount" sites like Travelocity and Expedia have the same hotel listed for so much more than the Sheraton site.

You can often undercut PRICELINE's counter offer by using re-bid zones, as discussed in this thread: Priceline Suggests Price to Pay

At the 4* level there are FOUR re-bid zones avaialble which would enable you to bid again and not have to wait 24 hours to try again. This is explained in this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained (if you're new to re-bidding it's highly recommended you confirm your re-bid zones with the board before bidding)
