newblood Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Hi everyone,I will be traveling to Virginia/Washington D.C. this summer and could use some bidding help. We will stay in D.C. from 6/14 - 6/17 (checkout date). It would be our preference to stay in the White House district...I submitted a bid (before I knew about this board) for $125 and was rejected. As long as we are in areas that could be close to the metro...we're ok with that. Max price we'd pay before taxes is $125. Is this too much to ask for that time of year? We're looking for 3* and up...willing to do 2*...if the general consensus here is that the two * are nice.Also...we'll be staying in Virginia Beach for one night on 6/18/09. We'd prefer oceanfront...and would be willing to pay $150 before taxes (fiance has never seen the ocean and I think it would be worth more money to stay ocean front). Again, looking for 3* and up, but would take 2* if it is a decent hotel.Any suggestions on bids? Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Please only post one stay per thread... we'l use this thread ot continue with your DC stay, please start a NEW TOPIC for your Viriginia Beach stay. For DC, exactly which other zones are you willing to accept? A quick look it appears that $125/nite may be tough for these dates at the 3* level or above, which leads to your other question... personally, i wouldn't bid for a 2*, especially in a city like DC where there are some areas (and likely hotels) you probably wouldn't want to stay in.It appears that the last nite of your stay, 6/17, is the 'trouble' date, although there is one hotel which seems to have a low rate for this one nite... is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? (you'll likely need to change hotels during your stay, but i think you could likely get a 4* hotel within your budget)Let us know your thougths and we'll proceed accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. newblood Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks for the response. We'd be willing to split our bid to get a good price. As far as areas to stay in we'd accept: Arlington, Crystal City, Dupont, Georgetown and Capitol Hill. Regarding the 17th, we are not planning on staying overnight. We will need a hotel for the nights of the 14th, 15th and 16th, but not the 16th. Does that give us any more leeway, or are you saying the night of the 16th could be a problem?I will post under the Virginia board for the VA beach stay. Thanks again!
thereuare Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Yes, i meant the nite of the 16th, sorry. Here is what i found from SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID:1)Searching for 6/15-6/17 there is a 4* hotel in the Dupont Circle zone for $113/nite with Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa and a 4/5 Tripadvisor rating which is a match for the Omni Shorehams so that would be our best guess.2)Then searching for 6/14-6/15 there is a 4.5* in the Dupont Circle zone with Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa for $106/nite... best guess is that this is the The Madison a Loews Hotel.ORThere is also a 4* in the Dupont Circle zone with Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business and a TA rating of 4.5/5.0 which is a match for the Hotel Palomar so that would be our best guess for this one.All of the hotels above are highly rated (4 or better via Tripadvisor) and within your budget.Alternately if you search HOTWIRE for your complete stay the least expensive 4* is priced at $175+/nite, making the above split seem fairly attractive.Thoughts? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- since the last 2 nites are the more difficult of the two, if you decide to move forward, i would make that purchase first to make sure that is all "set" before making the second purchase for the first nite Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
newblood Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Second stay of a split bid.Omni Shoreham Hotel2500 Calvert Street NorthwestWashington, DC 20008202-234-0700 Room Cost (avg. per room, per night): $113.00 (USD) Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $226.00 (USD) Taxes and Fees: $40.88 (USD) Total Room Cost: $266.88 (USD) Again, I used the PRICELINE link through this site and thereuare's suggestion of starting bid of $113. As you can see, it was accepted :) Thanks again!
thereuare Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Congratulations on your win... glad to see everything went well with both legs of your purchase. My suggestion above was actually to use HOTWIRE simply because the TripAdvisor info was provided and we knew they were highly rated, but looks like you did just as well with PRICELINE and received the same hotels we thought you'd get thru HOTWIRE... all is well that ends well :)Thanks again for sharing your results with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding. If anyone is following this thread, this was a split purchase (2 nite of a 3 nite stay) and the first purchase can be found here: Priceline Washing DC Loews Madison.Have a great trip and enjoy your time in DC!
