rab27 Posted January 27, 2009 Report Posted January 27, 2009 Can you help me to identify 3* hotel in Downtown/Soho. Have looked at the list and looks like the Holiday Inn on Lafayette St to me as there are only a few in that region.Amenities include: Smoke free rooms, Fitness Centre, Restaurant, High Speed InternetPrice looks good at $69 but would you advise paying the extra for a more central location?Cheers
thereuare Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! What is the purpose of this trip... will you be doing "general touristy" things? Based upon some of the things you intend on doing, are most of them in Midtown? How tight is your budget? (ie- while we all want the "best" deal, if you spend more on will it prevent you from doing other things on this trip?)Let us know the above and we'll be in a better position to advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. rab27 Posted January 28, 2009 Author Report Posted January 28, 2009 Its our first trip to New York, so yes plan on doing the touristy things predominantly. We were going to get one of the Metrocards to get around so is location that much of an issue?Budget is fairly tight, we were originally thinking of staying in a hostel but it seems prices there go up to $75 for a private anyway so I thought I'd look up the hotel comparisons. Definately wouldn't want to be paying more than $100 per night, guess thats my upper limit. But the more we save on the hotel the more other things we can do i.e. normal sights, Broadway, Rangers game etcAll suggestions are welcome. Thanks
thereuare Posted January 28, 2009 Report Posted January 28, 2009 Staying downtown is do-able, but assuming most of the things you'd like to do will be in Midtown (or higher north) you're looking at about a 20 minute commute, which doesn't sound like much, but after a day or two you'll find it tiresome. As well, it makes stopping back at your room during the day (take a short rest, sit down, drop off bags, etc) a bit more inconvenient, and if you need to take a taxi late at nite back to your hotel, a large part of the savings for that nite will be gone. There is a 3.5* in the Chelsea-MSG zone zone for $99/nite that has not yet been identified as well as a 3* in the MTC zone for $99 (Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet) which is a match for the Holiday Inn 57th St.My choice (and advice), if you could stretch your budget to $110, or possibly $120, is to try bidddng on PRICELINE for a 4* hotel in the midtown zones... we've been seeing some great deals in the MTE zone at 4 star properties. If you can't extend your budget, i would then try for a 3.5* hotel in the midtown zones, where i think you have a good chance (no guarantees) of landing a hotel within your budget, as well as have it be more convenient than staying Downtown.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise according. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.
