eviljelly Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 $110 was my first bid for the trip and it was accepted - maybe I should have bid a bit lower? It's a Clarion, so it should be fairly good, I hope.

eviljelly Posted August 9, 2004 Author Report Posted August 9, 2004 Thanks for the welcome, thereuare. I will only be in NYC for a few days, so I hope to make the most of my time. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should go see, or what bars are good, etc., or maybe there's a website that you could point me to? Right now, my plans are to see the WTC site, the NYSE trading floors (I heard they might be doing away with floor trading alltogether within the next little while, so I want to see it in action), Time Square - all the touristy things, basically.Any help would be much appreciated!
thereuare Posted August 9, 2004 Report Posted August 9, 2004 This LINK has a few various threads in it (one from me, a few by others) with things that we like to do and/or recommend others to do.I have a bias towards staying away from the tourists and blending in with the locals when i'm vacation. (for example i'd go to the top of the Empire State Building and i do try to go every few years, but you'd never find me at a Hard Rock Cafe, Mars2112, or Jeckle and Hyde restaurant on vacation). I tried to focus on things that you wouldn't necessariyly read in a tour book as i feel that gives me a better feel for an area than be surrounding with a melting pot of visitors just like myself.Anyway, i would try to blend some of the suggestions in the threads linked above along with some 'typical' things.Start with the above links and tell us what interests you, along with the other things you have on your list to do and we'll try to put together an itinerary for you.BTW, you may want to look into the NYSE visit, i don't think they give tours anymore and it has been closed to tourists since 9/11. Now that the thread level has recently been raised to orange and the stock exchange a specific target, security is very tight and i don't think you'll be able to get inside. eviljelly Posted August 11, 2004 Author Report Posted August 11, 2004 Ernie, to answer your question about what my bidding strategy was, I gotta say I didn't have much of one. I started too high based mostly on prices I'd seen for 4 star hotels, not 3 stars. You should do the research yourself, though, because the rates will vary by the dates.
