Siim Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Hello!I'm new in this and therefore looking for a bit of help. I'm planning to visit New York March 4-8 with three people (so it's 2 rooms and 4 nights - 3/4/09-3/8/09). I've visited NY once before and then we stayed in a hostel on the 146th street. For the upcoming trip we would like a bit (a lot…) classier stay :)I looked at the map on Priceline's website and thought that something below 57th street in Manhattan would be quite nice (although this is not a must - subway is our friend). The main criteria should still be the best hotel for the lowest price for four students :)About the budget - it would be nice to get a room for under $100/night.So any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 Given that there are 3 people, would you be against 1 room? I just think it might wind up being a little cheaper than bidding on 2.

I just think it might wind up being a little cheaper than bidding on 2.There are still four people - me+3 :). In that case, I think the 2-room option is the only way to go. Or...?My bad - didn't make that clear. Sry
AaronJB Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 The New York Helmsley is a 4* for $166.99 (an Executive 2 doubles room) on Orbitz.com when you look up 4 people. Use coupon code FABSAVE10 for 10% off = about $150 and change. The Helmsley does not participate with PRICELINE or HOTWIRE. Given that most other 4*'s for these dates are on the pricey side, I think you're looking at at least around $100, if not $105-110 per room in terms of bidding on a 4*. You may be able to get a 3* for around $85-95; either way, the total for 2 rooms is going to be higher than 1 room at the Helmsley. If the Helmsley idea sounds good, please use the site's Orbitz.com link.If you are still interested in PRICELINE bidding, please let us know the areas you'd be interested in.

Use coupon code FABSAVE10 for 10% off = about $150 and change. The Orbitz option seems to be very good. Thanks for that. Have to talk it over with others and will see. (Beginning to think I shoult post into the Washington and Puerto Rico threads also, to find such deals for those parts of our trip :))But how important is the correct adress when booking through Orbitz.com. The "outside-US" drop-down menu only allows to select about 10 countries (mine isn't one of them) and their FAQ says:Click the "Address outside US" link and select your country from the country drop down list. If your country is not listed, we are not able to service customers from that country at this time.Could I still use some random country and put my real adress into the first two adress lines?
thereuare Posted January 22, 2009 Report Posted January 22, 2009 You would need to use at your own risk, but if you can get Orbitz to process the credit card payment (ie- getting thru any 'checks' that the credit card company does to protect against fraud) then i don't think you'll have any issue... Orbitz will be paid, the hotel will be paid, and you'll pay the credit card bill.Orbitz won't know your "real" address, the credit card company won't know that your country isn't suposed to be used on the Orbitz site, and the hotel will have your reservation and be paid, so i don't see anyone going back and cancelling this reservation for any reason.HOWEVER, the big question is whether you can get the transaction processed, and you won't know that until you give it a try. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
Siim Posted January 23, 2009 Author Report Posted January 23, 2009 This morning, when I started to make the reservation, I couldn't find that offer anymore :) Did I really miss my chance? If so - then I'm open for new good suggestions...
AaronJB Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 It's still there when I looked this morning - search for the New York Helmsley if you don't see it. I would suggest taking this Orbitz deal as soon as possible, given that it is a great deal compared to the other 4*'s in NYC for these dates.

AaronJB Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Awesome! Glad you were able to take advantage of this deal, as it's quite a bit less than what other 4*'s are charging for these dates. Plus, the Helmsley actually does get good/very good reviews at tripadvisor.com (link: REVIEWS , as well. Thanks for using the Orbitz.com link and reporting your purchase.Enjoy your trip. :)
