jgtexas Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 My wife and I are attending an event in Chicago on the dates above at the Hyatt Regency Chicago. I had seen people getting the Hyatt easily for $59. However, I was fine with any of the three hotels listed in the map for that area because all three were around the Convention Center. I started on Jan 9th bidding ONLY to 4* hotels in that specific area. I kept being rejected daily while increasing the bid by $5 each time. Finally I got the Hotel Burnham Chicago, A Kimpton Hotel, for $102. It is a little far from the Hyatt but at least it looks like a nice hotel. Decoration looks outdated, but fancy. Parking is extra at $42/night!!! Does anyone know that hotel? Please add it to the map, I don't know how to do it.PS I used the PRICELINE link from this forum. thereuare Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 Congratulations on your success!GoogleMaps put this trip at 7/10ths of a mile and a 10-15 minute walk (and if the weather is poor i'm sure a cab will be inexpensive enough). However, most importantly it gets great reviews... and Kimpton hotels come with free evening wine receptions :)I'm sure AaronJB will be able to offer some firstahand knowledge of this property once he sees this thread, as well as some alternate parking options in the area.Thank you for sharing your results with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. AaronJB Posted January 20, 2009 Report Posted January 20, 2009 The Hotel Burnham is arguably one of the most historic hotels in the city (but now with a modern, Kimpton boutique feel). It was formerly the Reliance Building, which is/was considered one of the very first "skyscrapers". The architecture of the building (also in terms of the interior) is remarkable, but by the 1990's, the building had fallen into disrepair. Kimpton came in in 1999 and took it over, transforming it into a hotel, but either reconstructing or renovating the original architecture. (From the website: "Renovation included meticulously reconstructing the mosaic floor, multi-colored marble ceiling and walls, and ornamental metal elevator grills, stairways and archways to resemble the lobby as it once existed.") It's a very special and unique hotel property - while you paid more than the Hyatt, you're getting a nicer/more upscale hotel. While the gigantic Hyatt is certainly fine for the $59-65 prices that people are getting it for, it's not a favorite. I'm guessing the reason the Hyatt wasn't available on these dates is because they are getting into the busier May/Spring season, whereas the $59-65 Hyatt's are still more in the Winter.Plus, free wine hour.I don't drive, so I don't have detailed parking knowledge, but the Millennium Park lot about 2-3 blocks West is $25. This garage is about a 17-20 minute walk North (and their rates are a bit higher now than what's below), but they do have the cheaper weekend rate:The Sterling Self-Park Garage (located between Clark and LaSalle on Kinzie)312.341.3463$24 per dayIn by 7 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $14In by 9 a.m. out by 7 p.m. - $18 per dayAfter 3 p.m. and weekends - $6
jgtexas Posted January 21, 2009 Author Report Posted January 21, 2009 Thank you!!! I am very happy with the win.
