chucka Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Hi, I'm brand new to this forum but am very impressed with all the helpful information available. I'm trying to identify a 3* hotel in San Juan at $79/night, Jan 29-31. It's so much less expensive than some of the other three star (and even 2.5 star) listings that it makes me wonder whether there's something wrong with the hotel. Please let me know if you have any information! Thanks so much.

thereuare Posted January 18, 2009 Report Posted January 18, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! This property has not yet been identified, BUT...If you change your search from 2adults/0children to 2adults/1child you will likely see a 3* hotel with POOL, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, also for $82/nite which matches the new Doubletree so that would be our best guess (for the property showing the pool). It is likely/possible that these are both the same hotel, but if you're interested in trying for the Doubletree and want to give it a shot, i would suggesting doing the search for 2adults/1child and purchasing the offering that shows with the Pool icon (vs. the 2adults/0children which appears without a Pool icon)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. chucka Posted January 18, 2009 Author Report Posted January 18, 2009 Thanks for the info. I did the search for 2 adults and 1 child, and I got a 3-star for $79/month with business center, high-speed internet, and pool. It wasn't for $82/month. Do you think this is still the Doubletree? Also, does it matter that there isn't a child traveling with us? Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 HOTWIRE uses a variable mark-up which would explain the price difference... i actually saw both hotels at $82, you're seeing them both at $79 (more evidence that the hotel with and without the pool are the same??), i'm fairly confident it's the same hotel we're both seeing, and the Doubletree would still be my best guess. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. chucka Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 Hey, just confirming that the $79 3-star hotel on Hotwire in San Juan is indeed the Doubletree...got a room for $100/night. Not too bad, considering the normal rate is more than double that. I used the 2 adult/0 children option with the listing that didn't have a pool among the amenities and still got the Doubletree, so I guess the moral of the story is that Hotwire doesn't always have the exact amenities listed. [At least now I don't have to make up an excuse now about how my imaginary kid got sick and had to be left in the US].Thanks for your help (I used your HOTWIRE link, BTW).
thereuare Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Congratulations on your success!Glad you received the hotel you were hoping for and this went well. Please report back after your stay as this hotel is new and there aren't too many reviews yet on it... i'm hoping the Doubletree did it right as this hotel is available at great rates (such as your win above) for a handful of dates, so it would be great to use this as an option when offered. Thanks for using our HOTWIRE link for your purchase and sharing your results with the board, enabling us to add this property to the Hotwire Hotel List.Enjoy your stay. chucka Posted February 8, 2009 Author Report Posted February 8, 2009 Just letting you know that I posted an extensive San Juan Doubletree Hotel Review in the hotel reviews section. Overall, it was good value for $100/night so I think it's a viable hotel option for San Juan.
