Hotwire Hotel: Chicago Advice

I am trying to book a weekend in Chicago for our first wedding anniversary, April 10th-12th. On Hotwire there is a 4.5* Mag Mile-Streeterville with amenities listed: Fitness, Restaurant, Business Center, & High Speed Internet for 114/night, its TripAdvisor rating is 4 out of 5 stars based on 220+ reviews. On Orbitz I found the Affina hotel at $127/night plus their current 20% promotion.

I believe from other posts that the Hotwire is the Intercontinental, so I was just wondering which hotel would be best recommended?

I'm sure AaronJB will respond accordingly as soon as he sees this thread... he's the resident expert on this area and will likely be able to outline the pros/cons of each as well as give his thoughts on which is a better deal. (if form some reason he misses this thread feel free to 'bump' it after 24 hours)

Welcome to the site and congrats on your first anniversary. :)

The 4.5 would likely be the Intercontinental, although the Conrad is another possibility.

Personally, I'd rather go with the Intercontinental or Conrad - both very nice hotels and superbly located. The Intercontinental is richly historic/old world (with new touches) and the Conrad is sleek and newer. Both are across from one another. I particularly like the Intercontinental for its mix of fascinating history and modern comfort.

If you want a more "boutique" (smaller/intimate) property, rather than the Affinia, I'd suggest the Amalfi, which offers the boutique style of the Affinia and the benefit of free breakfast and evening reception.

Thanks so far for all your help! Still exploring some none "blind" options to put the bill payer (read:husband!) at ease :)

Would go for the HOTWIRE 4.5* if could be sure it was the Conrad but it looks like more often than not its the Intercontinental, for this trip we are looking

for something a little more modern in aesthetic

I have found good rates for the Fairmont and the Swissotel and both have decent TripAdvisor ratings. Was wondering on your opinion on the 2 properties?

Would go for the HOTWIRE 4.5* if could be sure it was the Conrad...

If you go back to HOTWIRE and click the CONTINUE button next to this offering then look to the right of the map... do you see a Tripadvisor rating of 4.0/5.0 with 220+ reviews? If so, this is consistent with the Conrad Hilton (which is rated 4.0 with 226 reviews... the InterContinental is also rated 4.0 by Tripadvisor, but has 325 reviews)

So i would favor this being the Conrad over the InterContinental and that would be my best guess.

There's a 3.5* hotel in the North Michigan Ave-Gold Coast-Water Tower area with the amenities: Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa for $89 - which would likely be the Hotel Indigo.

This is a very cute boutique property in the Gold Coast neighborhood - the hotel's bright decor, cozy style and quiet (for the city, that is) setting would be a very good fit for the occasion. This is one of my favorite properties, as it has a home-y feeling (hardwood floors, cute beach-house style furniture) and more personality than many downtown properties. This would also be a smaller, more intimate property.
