I walked my sister thru this, so no use of the PRICELINE link( sorry).

She was looking for a 2.5 or better in Hollywood (she's going to be in the audience of Dr. Phil)

First bid of 50.00 rejected. I told her to add BevHills/West Hollywood as there were no 2.5* there. She ( and I) didnt realize she'd be upgraded to a 3*. She's still only 7 miles away from the studio so no biggie.

Total with tax 87 and change.

I gave this strategy a try for the next month, but had no luck going up to $82. I'll just wait and try again....Thanks for posting. That looks like a perfectly decent hotel.
