bmneal Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Initially, bid up to $145 back on 1/02 for 4* MTE hotel for our 1 yr anniversary trip; was rejected. Saw post from earlier today, decided to try again.Started at 105, then 108, then 110 using free rebids, and was accepted at $110 for the Benjamin! Thanks to the earlier poster...Used the PRICELINE link, as always. Any suggestions for good, reasonably priced food or nearby must-do's?? Thanks!
AaronJB Posted January 14, 2009 Report Posted January 14, 2009 Thank you for posting your win - another great deal for the Benjamin (not only a great price, but a well-reviewed hotel.) Hopefully board moderator thereuare will see this, as he may have some local restaurant recommendations. Is this your first NYC trip?
thereuare Posted January 15, 2009 Report Posted January 15, 2009 Thank you for sharing your results with the board and using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Restaurant recommendations:Ess-A-Bagel: (Third Ave at 51st St) one of the best bagels in the city makes for an inexpensive breakfast among local NYersChicken (and/or Lamb) and Rice Food Cart: (SW corner of 53rd and Sixth Ave) not for everyone (since it's a street cart, aka "street meat"), but open from 7:30pm-4am... BIG platter of meat and rice, pour on some white sauce, mix it up and let the white sauce soak in... then just a dab of hot sauce (it's the hottest thing i've ever tasted). Won't be the best meal you eat in NYC, but likely the best, and most filling, $6 you can get in the city. Expect a line just about no matter what time you arrive. Here they are in action: Not in the immeidate area, but a moderate walk: Jackson Hole Wyoming has a fantastic, and HUGE, burger... Third Ave at 35th St.Downtown i've been once but really enjoyed: adrienne's pizza bar Bring a map as it's not that easy to find: 54 Stone Street, New York City, (212) 248-3838. Just about everyone gets the square/rectangle pie and not the round. Also fun if the weather is nice, take the Subway (A, C to High St in Brooklyn) and go to Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge for pizza (expect a line at all hours of the day)... then walk back to Manhattan by walking across the Brooklyn Bridge. If there's a particular food or budget you're looking for let me know and i'll try to come up with something.Have a great trip. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
bmneal Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks so much for the recommendations. This is my 2nd trip to NYC, but it's been a long time; it will be my wife's first. I will have to give these places a shot. Thanks again for the recs and this great site!
