Sinoed Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Hi, I'm new to Hotwire and this forum so please excuse me for any mistakes! I'm trying to figure out a good hotel to book in NYC for Feb 19-21. I have read the forums about the difficulties of getting room preferences via Hotwire in NYC so I'm a little concerned with using the service to book my rooms. I'm travelling with a group of 4 people and will need two rooms. First perference would be 2 doubles, but a queen + a double is ok too. We will be arriving at Penn Station after a long bus ride so I'd like a hotel that is within an easy walk of this area. Preferably we'd also like to be within an easy walk of Times Square, Central park etc. since we will spend some time in that area. Last year I stayed with a group of others at the Pennsylvania which is an experience I'd rather not repeat! I did find a room at the Edison with 1Q and 2 doubles for $250/nt but I'm not sure if quality wise I'm looking at another Pennsylvania experience? Essentially I want something that is clean and comfortable in the $120-$190 range per room per night. It would be nice if we were also close to the Subway and transportation. I did find a 3.5* on Hotwire for those dates in the Times Square Theatre district for $129. I think this might be the Room Mate Grace? Amenities are Boutique, Breakfast, Pool, Business Center and Spa.There is also a 4* in the Times Square district with Fitness, Restaurant, Business and Internet which might be the Millenium Broadway? So I'm not sure if its better to go with Hotwire or to try and book directly with the hotels for the bedding preferences? In other words, if it is the Roommate Grace will we end up with 2 queens? Or to use a service like Quickbook? I noticed that the Comfort Inn there was listed at $157/nt for two doubles.. any help or advice you can share is greatly appreciated. :) Thank you!
thereuare Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding!Am i understanding you correctly...There are four people in total and you want 2 rooms. Idealy each room would have two separate beds, but if one of the rooms only had one bed that would be fine too. Is that correct? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Sinoed Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 Am i understanding you correctly...There are four people in total and you want 2 rooms. Idealy each room would have two separate beds, but if one of the rooms only had one bed that would be fine too. Is that correct?Hi thanks for the reply! Yes that is correct, there are 4 of us travelling and preference would be to have 2 rooms with two separate beds in each. Any suggestions that would fit that bill? Is it better to book directly via the hotel website, Expedia or something like that?
thereuare Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy which means you could get a room with only one bed. You can call the hotel after your purchase and request a room with two beds but this is just a request and the hotel may or may not be able (or willing) to honor your request; as well, there are some hotels in NYC which only have one bed and little or no room for a rollaway.HOTWIRE allows you to search for up to quad occupancy and guarantees sleeping accomodations for everyone you include on your search... so if you search for triple/quad occupancy for each room you should be assured of at least separate sleeping accomodations in each room. I say 'sleeping accomodations' since the 2nd bed doesn't necessarily have to be a bed... it could be a rollaway or a pullout sofa. What is your maximum budget for this stay? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Sinoed Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 So it sounds like searching Hotwire and choosing triple occupancy would be the best way to go.. I did try that and the rates change considerably. Which is why I'm wondering if its better to book directly? I tried the 'room on request' when I went to London.. and it didn't work out that great (which is why I'm concerned with booking that way again). I'd say max budget would be $200 per room per night (so 200X2X2 = $800) but I'd prefer to keep it closer to around $140-$180 per room per night.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Let me see what I can find for these dates - be back in a few minutes.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 I'd go to the Affinia website (http://www.affinia.com/Reservations.aspx) and use promotional code 9DAY when you attempt to book (choose the Affinia Manhattan). The sale price should be $149 for a studio room w/2 beds and a kitchen in each room. While usually I'd recommend PRICELINE or HOTWIRE, this is a great deal that will get you *RIGHT* (within a block or two) by Penn Station.
Sinoed Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 Wow, terrific deal Aaron thank you! But.. one quick question, I noticed that the Affinia is smoke free?? Is that for all rooms? I'll be bringing along two smokers with me.. :/
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Oh, bummer. Yep, the Affinia is smoke-free. I'll start researching again if you think the Affinia isn't going to work.
AaronJB Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Studio at the Murray Hill East Suites for $142.35 (35% off) via Orbitz.com, with an additional 10% off by using the FABSAVE10 coupon code. The Tudor is on Orbitz for $155 (which is 40% off), and then combine that with FABSAVE10 to get a total of 50% off that hotel's rates. Please use the site's link to Orbitz.com if either of these ideas are of interest. The New York Helmsley is $165 via Expedia.com on a 48-hour sale. Use coupon JAN10 for $20 off the final total. The Millennium UN has a great deal on Expedia at $139.30 (and again, JAN10 coupon for $20 off the final total.) Also on Expedia.com: Courtyard Marriott East ($169), Beekman Tower ($149, studio suite)If any of these ideas are of interest, please use the site's link to Expedia.com.
Sinoed Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 Well.. after some discussion and a bit of prodding on my part I've booked the Affinia. Mom will just have to smoke outside.. :) Location and price wise this really can't be beat. Its actually perfect because I have an idea of the little deli's and shops thanks to the Pennsylvania stay last time. It will make it easier to accomodate other demands knowing the area a little bit. Thanks soo much for your help! :) :o
thereuare Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Glad you found something which will work well for your needs and for 'closing' this thread with your decision for this stay.Have a great trip!
