Hotwire Hotel: I am new to Priceline

Ok here is the deal

I am due to arrive in NYC on 8th of August for 2 weeks and kinda fancied a upscale hotel but the prices are really expensive so i thought i would give priceline a try and just bid for my first night

I won the Crowne Plaza Times Square which i am really happy with and i am really tempted to just bid for the other 13 days however as its a while away before i arrive i am worried about the fact that in the meantime i could get sick or something and not be able to go meaning that i could stand to lose a couples of thousand pounds

The only thing i can think of is to bid a day or 2 before i am due to leave

Does anyone else worry something might prevent them from going and they could lose a lot of money

Are you otherwise ill or prone to sickness? Have you bought your plane tickets yet?

PRICELINE does offer insurance ($5/nite) which i believe includes illness (doublecheck the exact terms and conditions yourself) but does not cover such things as "i changed my mind" or "i didn't like the hotel i received".

You shouldn't bid and commit to a non-refundable purchase until you're close enough to check-in that you're comfortable 'knowing' that you'll make the trip... but i'll suggest that a day or two before your arrival is a bit too close for comfort, imo.

If you do choose to wait it out, i'd suggest booking a cancellable back-up in the meantime to protect yourself should prices rise between now and your stay.
