nhm2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 I am new to bidding on Priceline and need some advice. Looking to book 2 rooms in a 3.5* in either South or East Lexington, KY. How should I start the bidding?
slick_gd Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 What is your maximum budget (before taxes and fees)? and is there one area of the two that you would prefer? If you haven't used PRICELINE before it would be a good idea to read through Priceline Re-bidding Explained to get an idea of how PRICELINE works. Please post any other questions you may have and we'll help you out.
nhm2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 Yes I have read about the free rebidding and how you can get around that too.We are arriving on 4/17 and staying 2 nights. I am sure the rates will be higher than normal due to the horse races.I would like to get something around $125 max (not including any fees).
thereuare Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding! Two questions:1) there are no 3.5* properties offered in the East zone... did you only want to bid the South zone or are you interested in lowering your star rating to 3* at all?2) you mention the "South" zone, and PRICELINE lists (Lexington - Lexington South) and (South Lexington - Highway 418) as zone names... i assume you're refering to the Lexington/Lexington South as one of your selections?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nhm2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 Yes I was referring to Lexington- Lexington South and then Lexington East
thereuare Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 As there are no 3.5* properties in the Lexington East zone, are you interested in a lower rated hotel, or did you want to first try for a 3.5* in the Lexington South zone up to your limit? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. nhm2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 Yes sorry, I just realized that too.I think I would rather start w/ the 3.5* in the Lexington- Lexington South area
thereuare Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 At the 3.5* level you have two re-bid zones available. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Given the time before your stay i would try lowballing first as follows:Select 3.5* South...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* South and re-bid zone2...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. nhm2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Author Report Posted January 5, 2009 thereuare-I used your advice and I got rejected on every offer or rebid. Any advice or where to I go from here? Thanks!
thereuare Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 First, don't get discouraged, as previously noted, we're lowballing a bit...24 hours from your last rejected bid, try again as follows:Select 3.5* South...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 3.5* South and re-bid zone2...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105PRICELINE may send you an email if/when you're eligible to bid again, but please be sure to return here and click our link to PRICELINE and not use any of the links in the email they send you.If the above is rejected post back and we'll revise again to your limit. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and keep us updated. nhm2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 I continued bidding on 3.5* and got up to $105 and all bids were rejected. Then decided that I would be ok w/ staying in a 3* so started w/ Lexington East. Last bid was at $95 and got rejected. Might try again later today after the 24 hours. Any advice would be helpful though. Thank you.
thereuare Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 When you bid 3* did you also include the South zone or did you only bid the East zone? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
nhm2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Author Report Posted January 7, 2009 I started w/ the East only. Then included the Lexington- Lexington South. And then raised my bid and included one region that does not have 3*. Basically kept the same concept that you adviced of but tried just bidding on 3* thinking that the rate would be less but the hotels would almost be just as nice. No luck so far.
thereuare Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Going forward, do you want to try up to $125 for a 3.5* first in only the South zone or do you want to try for the least expensive 3* or better in either zone? (presumably still using $125 as a maximum, even at the 3* level)Let us know and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. thereuare Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Was this thru PRICELINE or did you book thru some other source? If PRICELINE, can you please add the star rating and zone of this property.Thanks.
