New to BetterBidding and love the idea. I am going with the wife to vegas for an annual trip on March 9th through 13th. Location does not matter, but I do not like the luxor. Love the MGM, but not sure if it is involved with priceline. Any comments or suggestions for my trip? Looking for a 4 or 5 star, would love to stay under 100 a night if possible. I like the challenge of the free upgrade at checkin so a base room is a fine place to start. Thanks!

For your dates on HOTWIRE, I see a 5* in the Central Strip with the amenities: Casino, Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, Spa Services just under $100 for these dates. Based upon the amenities, that would be a possible match for the Venetian. There are an assortment of HOTWIRE choices under $100, but that appears to be the only 5* on HOTWIRE for these dates under $100.

You could also attempt to bid on PRICELINE, attempting to avoid bidding on 4* Strip South (as that's what the Luxor has last been reported as.) Given that what appears to be the Venetian is showing for $93 on HOTWIRE and the Venetian has last been reported as a 5* in the Strip North area, you could attempt to see if you could get under HOTWIRE's price by bidding for a 5* in Strip North for $70 on PRICELINE. If $70 wasn't taken, try $75 a day later. $70 may or may not be too lowball an offer, but you have time if it's not accepted.

However, by bidding on PRICELINE, you could potentially get a different 5* hotel in that area.

If you want a specific hotel, Orbitz.com has no shortage of 4* properties for under $100 for these dates, and coupon code FABSAVE10 takes 10% off each night at most hotels on Orbitz.

Please ask before booking if you have any questions.

It would also be greatly appreciated if you could use the site's Orbitz, HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.

Yes i have tried it two times, they make it seem like they are upgrading you but the rooms are already suites. so i am not convinced you arent getting the same suite you would have had you not given the 20.00 tip to, i know for a fact i personally didnt get anything better than the basic because the 3rd time most recently i decided not to give the 20.00 tip to and i got the exact same type of room as the two times i did give a 20.00 tip to.

I did check their web site and they have all kinds of bigger rooms and better rooms i never have seen yet, maybe it just depends on how full they are and who the staff member is you get when you go up, id say its worth a try, but from my experience, i thought i was upgraded those first 2 times, when in fact it is just their regular suite.

It's important to do a little research first to know what type of rooms constitute an 'upgrade' and then determine, within reason, what you can likely ugprade to at the property. For example, at the Veneitian you can ask for a specific suite type "Are there any complimentary upgrades to the Venezia or Bella Suites available?" or "I'd like something up high with a view of the Strip (Bellagio fountains, Mirage volcano, etc)". If you ask specifically what you're seeking i think you have a better chance of receiving it, as well as knowing when a room is an upgrade vs. what you likely would have received anyway.
