PeteF Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 We are looking for 5 nights between 2/11 and 2/16 on West Maui (off to Hana for the last 3 nights if anyone has any good recommendations for that area). I would love to stay at the Westin Villas which I believe is the hotel being listed but even $228 would be a stretch for me. Any thoughts of this price going lower if I wait, perhaps under $200? My only fear is losing the availablilty since it is high season. My other option would be to go for what I believe is the ResortQuest Kaanapali Shores for $158? My primary focus is to sleep 4, have a kitchen, pool and on the beach. Kid's program is a huge plus too but optional. Also, based on the descriptions below, would I get a 1 BR for the $228 hotel and a studio for the $158 hotel?Details for $228 roomResort Beachfront 1-Bedroom Suite Fully-equipped Kitchen In-Room Laundry Pool(s) Restaurant(s) High-speed Internet Access Golf Nearby Spa Services Condo Details for $158 roomBeachfront Studio Fully-equipped Kitchen Daily Housekeeping Air Conditioning Children's Activity Program Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) 24-hour Front Desk Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Tennis Nearby Condo Thank you in advance! This site is a great and I will be sure to use the link provided for HOTWIRE for both out hotel stay and car rental as everyone should
slick_gd Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Thanks for starting a new thread. What are the star ratings of each of these hotels?
PeteF Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 The $228 is 4 stars and the $158 is 3 1/2
slick_gd Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 Sorry, I forgot to ask this before, but please include the zones as well. I want to be as accurate as possible.
PeteF Posted December 17, 2008 Author Report Posted December 17, 2008 Do you mean the zones that Priceline uses? If so then we are looking at Primarily Zone 1 (Kaanapali area). I have been leery about using Priceline because I can't see a way to guarantee beach front, pool and a kitchen at a nice property. I would be open to zones 3 and 4 if the price was lower than comparable properties in zone 1. I would really like to get the price to under $150 for 3
slick_gd Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 I was referring to the HOTWIRE zone where you first saw the hotels. I guess Ka'anapali is the area you are looking at. I also assume you are looking at the condos and not the hotels. If my assumptions are correct then these are my guesses:The 4* looks to be the Westin Ka'anapali and the 3.5* looks to be the ResortQuest Maui Kaanapali Villas. You're right, there is no way of guaranteeing all those aspects with PRICELINE, it's really just luck of the draw. HOTWIRE is likely your better bet, however you may be able to fit into your budget with PRICELINE seeing as how HOTWIRE is a little higher. However, the extra $8/night for the 3.5* might be worth the peace of mind in knowing which hotel you are getting. If you plan on reserving, help support this site by using this HOTWIRE or PRICELINE link to start your purchase and let the board know the result.
PeteF Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 Thanks for ths insight. I have notice more hotel/condos being added to hotwire for that timeframe so I think I am going to wait a bit longer and see what is added and if rates go down. Thanks again
PeteF Posted December 21, 2008 Author Report Posted December 21, 2008 I am not sure if I should start a new thread or not as this is still part of my trip planning that I posted earlier, but it is a different condo that I just noticed on hotwire and for a few extra days. Here are the details of what I am looking for along with the condo details. My primary focus is to find a 3* or higher condo that sleeps 4 in the lahaina/kaanapali/kapalua area, have a kitchen (full preferred), a pool and is on the beach. I am looking to spend under $150 a night if possible. Our trip will be from 2/11/09 - 2/19/09. Here is the latest condo that was added to Hotwire. Any idea of what it might be?3-star hotel in Kapalua - $147 per night 2/11 - 2/19This hotel features the following amenities:Beachfront Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Laundry Facilities Tennis Nearby Kitchenette Condo Thanks much!
slick_gd Posted December 21, 2008 Report Posted December 21, 2008 PeteF it's best to keep all posts and questions for the same stay in the same thread. That way we aren't doubling up the information and it's easier to follow along.I'll take a look to see what hotel this could be.
slick_gd Posted December 22, 2008 Report Posted December 22, 2008 HOTWIRE lists the tripadvisor traveler review rating for this hotel as 3.5/5 based on 140+ reviews which is a match to the Outrigger Royal Kahana. That's my best guess. However, you mention that you need the place to sleep 4. Are you searching for 4 adults? When I search for 4 adults the 3* condo is not offered, the cheapest available for your star rating is a 3.5* in Wailea - Makena for $199.Searching for 4 is the only way to guarantee sleeping arrangements for 4, if you search and book under the default 2 adults then there is a possibility that the hotel/condo may not accommodate a request for 4 people.
PeteF Posted December 22, 2008 Author Report Posted December 22, 2008 I am searching for 2 adults and 2 children. Perhaps I missed adding the two children to the search criteria today as I am not seeing that availability either anymore. I now see where you are getting the trip advisor info from. That should make it much easier for me to identify what hotel is bieng offered. Thanks again for the help. I'll be sure to post back what I go with and the results.
