Priceline Hotel: Bid on Las Vegas Strip (N&S) for July 4 Weekend

I'm bidding on 3 1/2 and 4 star hotels on the Las Vegas Strip (N & S) for July 2, 2009- July 6, 2009. So far, I've bid both star categories at the following dollar amounts: $40, 42, 43, 45, 47. Multiple times, I've had the 'special offer' of a 4 star hotel for $77/night. I've elected to turn that down as I'm looking for a better bargain (crazy?).

Any bidding advice? Given the special offer notice for the 4 star hotel, is it unlikely that I'll get a 4 star hotel for less than that?

Also, as an aside, retail value on priceline.com appears to be a bit more expensive than Orbitz.com and AAA.com...

Thank you!

I think it's smart bidding to turn down the 'special offer' unless you are out of time or out of re-bids. Most often when people are presented with that offer they end up winning a hotel for less if they choose to keep on bidding.

However, I think you might be slightly low-balling at $47, but seeing as how you have plenty of time you could continue what you are doing for the next few days until you are ultimately accepted.

Is there any hotel you are looking for in particular?

Thanks for your reply. I know I'm low-balling quite a bit, but I decided to give it a shot since (like you said) I have a lot of time.

I don't have a particular hotel in mind, really. In the past, I've stayed at the Las Vegas Hilton, Imperial Palace and Treasure Island. This time, I'd prefer to stay at a nicer hotel, hence the bidding on the 4 and 3 1/2 star hotels. I also would like to be close to the monorail, since I like to gamble at the less expensive hotels.

Any suggestions?

How important is being close to the monorail... as yo won't be able to know the location of your hotel until after your purchase, so there is a chance you may be disappointed in this aspect of your stay.

Also, note that there are a few hotels in PRICELINE's "Strip" zones which are actually located slightly off the strip... would these be acceptable as well?

If so, what would you consider to be a 'good' deal that would be worth you locking in a non-refundable hotel this far ahead of your stay?
