meppen Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Hello, I'd like to stay at either Marriott, Sheraton, Hilton, Hyatt, Moana Surfrider -- important to me that I'm on beach in Waikiki; and I won't have a car. Can you please tell me how to bid on priceline? I'd like to get in for $130/nt. It's says "retail price" is $319...do i bid $160 (half)? My max is $170/nt.Is it possible the $149 four-star on Hotwire "4-star hotel in Waikiki Beach Area "one of of the ones I mentioned?Since I don't have much time, I cannot really rebid more than a couple times cuz I need to figure this out this week.THanks!!
AaronJB Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 If you need to be on the beach, personally I would recommend searching on HOTWIRE (as you did) and looking for a property with a beachfront listed as an amenity (which you also did.)When searching HOTWIRE for your dates, I see a 4* in the Waikiki Beach area with the amenities: Resort, Beachfront, Restaurant, Pool, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Golf, Tennis, Spa, Childrens Activities. This would be a potential match for the Hilton Hawaiian Village. If this listing is of interest, it would be greatly appreciated if you could start your purchase by using the site's link to HOTWIRE (click the HOTWIRE), as doing so supports the site. Please also report back to confirm which hotel you won so we can edit the thread title. Any questions, please ask. Thanks again & Happy Holidays.
meppen Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 Thank you. If was to bid on PRICELINE for what I am looking for, could you recommend a strategy?? Thanks!!
meppen Posted December 16, 2008 Author Report Posted December 16, 2008 Started at $110 and was rejected....after rebidding 4 times (thanks for the tip about adding zones that don't have a resort/4*) got into Outrigger Waikiki On The Beach for $165/nt. ($159 was rejected) I called the hotel to ask for nonsmoking room, which they said was not a problem as the entire hotel is nonsmoking. (ok one small victory)I was told the category I'm booked in is "City View" Looking on the Outrigger web site, a "City View" room is currently $209, including a $25.00 shopping or dining credit, effectively making the rate $184. So, priceline saved me a whopping $19 per night. Just about 10% --- I don't know --- what's up with that?? I was expecting a better savings as according to priceline the "retail" is over $300/night. Is a $19 savings worth not being able to cancel or change or have any recourse if the experience is bad at the hotel on check in....quite honestly, based on their web site and what I read on this bulletin board, I was expecting the Hilton Hawaiian Village or Sheraton Waikiki.....I truly hope the Outrigger surprises me.
