surfgirl Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Hi,I just booked flights to Oahu 12/16-12/19 and I am now looking for some bidding tips. I'd like to stay in one of the resorts in the vicinity of Waikiki Beach (Hilton Village would be fine) or in a 4* at Waikiki Beach. I'd like to pay $115 or less (I have a back up option to stay with a family friend) :) Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!
thereuare Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 To clarify, you're comfortable with a hotel anywhere within the boundaries of PRICELINE's Waikiki Beach zone? Also note that when you bid on a Resort you're not bidding on the Hilton, but any Resort class property (or higher) in the zone, i assume you're fine with any Resort class property in this zone?Lastly, did you want to bid up to your limit for a Resort property first and then if rejected try for a 4* OR are you looking for the least expenisve 4* hotel or better for this stay?Let us know and we'll advise accordingly.PS- as per our reply to your other thread note that we are an affilaite of the Westin and please check our support page for your hotel direct purchases Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
surfgirl Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Thanks for the quick reply. To clarify, I am happy with any resort either in the Waikiki Beach area or the Waikiki Marina area (I thought Hilton is the only resort in the latter) but I am fine with any 4* in the Waikiki Beach area. Also, I am looking for the least expensive 4* or better. And thanks for pointing out the link to the support page, I was aware of the links when buying through PRICELINE or HOTWIRE but not when buying directly. Thanks! :)
thereuare Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 At the 4* level you have FIVE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Beach and re-bid zone4...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $95, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Beach and re-bid zone5...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $115Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. surfgirl Posted December 15, 2008 Author Report Posted December 15, 2008 Yay, boarding passes are ready to be printed and a hotel room is confirmed! I ended up with Sheraton Waikiki with $112/night. First, I tried bidding 4* hotels according to the bidding strategy suggested here, but all my bids up to $115 were rejected. Today, I started over and just entered resorts in the Waikiki Beach area (using the PRICELINE link, of course). My bid of $90 was rejected but I received a counter offer of $112 and decided to go with it. Hopefully Sheraton isn't as bad as some people have suggested :) At least the latest trip advisory reviews have been positive. Does anyone have experience of getting an upgrade with SPG gold card when booking through Priceline? Thanks for the help!
AaronJB Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Thank you so much for reporting your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.I wouldn't count on any upgrades for SPG members via PRICELINE wins, but I would recommend calling a couple of days before your stay (which is actually now, which I suddenly just realized after looking at the thread title) and see what they say. If not, try again at check-in, but again, I wouldn't get your hopes up. It will likely depend upon the hotel and even the person you talk to, so it may even come down to the way you approach the person you talk to.Certainly looks like a nice property to me - wish I could go instead of being stuck in single-digit temperatures. :)$199 regular rate, so $112 is definitely a good deal.Enjoy your trip and Happy Holidays. :)
