drz130 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Got the Newark Hilton Penn Station for $65 on Dec. 4. I made a mistake somewhere, thinking I was bidding on a 4*, or I would have started lower, but still this would be a fairly low price if it weren't for the following:The airport shuttle only comes every hour, and we missed it by 15 mins. Didn't realize that you had to take the air train to the area. Then the shuttle comes, and it's full. I never got a satisfactory explanation as to why it was already full, if this was the only pick up area??, so we had to wait while they sent out another shuttle. Total wait time, 1 hour and 15 minutes.Room was tiny, tiny, tiny. I don't know if this was the Priceline special, but the room and bathrooms were especially small.Other than that, the location was great for an easy 20 minute train ride into NY Penn Station.
thereuare Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Welcome to BetterBidding!Thank you for sharing your results wtih the board.Glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay, even with the shuttle issues. This hotel is really on the outskirts of the Airport zone and isnt' really that close to the airport, which is likely why there is limited shuttle service. For anyone else that ends up in this area, the Shuttle would likely be the first best option, but if you do 'just miss it', there is a public bus you can inexpensively take to Newark Penn Station as well as an Amtrak/NJ Transit train (this latter option isn't that cheap, but quick if you're in a pinch and time is more important than money)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. stateofflux Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 I'm considering going for a 3* or 3.5* hotel near Newark for our first night in the USA (after an incredibly long flight from South Africa).I am quite keen on trying to get this hotel, because it's near Penn Station and we could pop in to New York for the evening.I notice that this hotel was won as a 3* (or at least the poster put it down as a 3*, but it seems they wrote the review only after returning from their trip)On the Hotwire Hotel List, this hotel is listed as a 3.5* hotel.Does anyone have any idea if Hotwire has changed it's rating of this hotel? Or is it still a 3.5*?
thereuare Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 This thread is in the wrong section of the board:I made a mistake somewhere, thinking I was bidding on a 4*, or I would have started lower...... so this was a PRICELINE win, which can have different star ratings for the same property.I've moved the thread acordingly.Sorry for any confusion.
