Hello -

I REALLY would like to stay at the Intercontinental Barclay this coming weekend. I noticed that several people got the Barclay for the following weekend. After searching the board, I saw that someone got the Grand Hyatt for the weekend I want. As mentioned earlier, I really want the Barclay. Any thoughts?

Welcome to BetterBidding!

With PRICELINE you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating that you select. If you're trying to target a specific property, HOTWIRE is often a better option as you can often identify the property beforehand based upon the amenities that are associated with the property.

The trade-off is that PRICELINE is usually a little cheaper than HOTWIRE, so you need to decide what is most important to you... the lowest possible price or having an idea of the hotel you're likely to receive?

Let us konw your thoughts and we'll advise accordingly.

I deducted the the 4 star in NYC in the Midtown East area is the Grand Hyatt based on the Trip Advisor rating listed. I am afraid that if I try that, that is what I will get. So - that leads me to Priceline. It appears that many of the hotels won were the Barlay Intercontinental (the one I want) and the Grand Hyatt. Looking at those and recent wins, what is the likely one I would get?

With PRICELINE you have to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone at the minimum star rating that you select.

As per above, there is no telling which hotel you will likely get... we have seen users at two different computers bid at the same exact time and receive different hotels.

You need to be willing to accept any hotel in the zone (at the minimum star level you select) or PRICELINE may not be the best option for this stay (and you're setting yourself up to potentially be disappointed)

If you're willing to be flexible PRICELINE can offer some great deals. If you'd like to move forward let us know your maximum bid, and if the MTE zone is the only area you're willing to accept, and we will suggest a strategy for you to follow.

Man - you are VERY helpful...I appreciate it. Question for you...I am also looking on HOTWIRE, and they have a 4 star in MTE. I believe it is either the Barclay or the Grand Hyatt because it offers tennis. However, the Tripadvisor ratings have it as a 3.5 and when I went to Tripadvisor to compare, the Grand Hyatt had 3.5 stars. How closely aligned are the Tripadvisor ratings with the HOTWIRE Tripadvisor ratings? Which one do you (based on your experience) do you think it is?

The one i'm seeing on my search for your dates shows a TA rating of 3.5/5.0 and 720+ customer reviews... best guess is that this is most likely the Grand Hyatt.

Why don't we backtrack a minute... what is it about the Inter-Continental Barclay that is appealing to you that makes you want to stay there?
